A haircut, a digression and a story.

I've always been envious of historical and celebrity diarists. At least they found something to write about. I am at a disadvantage here, not being a celebrity or historical. Time will solve that problem; one day I will be historical, but for the moment I don't feel very interesting. By the time my... Sign in to see full entry.

Arrogance and stupidity. You can probably guess "politician" is next.

I'm definitely feeling better. You can tell, my wife informs me, from the advice I give other drivers as I navigate the Nottingham ring road. It's actually more of a crescent than a ring; for some reason our city planners have abandoned the concept of a circle that moves traffic around. This is how... Sign in to see full entry.

Delicate disposition? Finer feelings? Read no further.

Decency demands that I merely remark on being indisposed this week. All four of us have been indisposed in fact. So badly that I didn't eat at all for two days, then went on to soup for two more. This, from a man who has the body mass index of a cannon ball, is serious indisposition. however,... Sign in to see full entry.

The sandwich debate. New fillings for a new life.

Number Two son has discovered the joys of sandwich making. Between school and martial arts training we have around an hour. I like to spend it writing or gardening so any offer of help is appreciated. If he wants a sandwich I am happy for him to have one, particularly if he wants to make it himself.... A grand night out

On 2/1/06 I wrote a blog on Mr Arthur Boyt, the road kill gourmet. It is in the Modern Manners blog if you want to see it. UK readers please note that the date quoted is as it appears on the blog: it was not actually 2nd January, but 1st February. Yesterday at Nottingham Station I picked up a copy... Sign in to see full entry.

The luck of the wislons

It must be getting warmer because there were squirrels in the park this morning. Not that it mattered because two hours running round with the kids kept me warm. Despite a passing pensioner telling me that it would keep me young I haven't noticed any falling away of the years, just a stiffness in... Sign in to see full entry.

Too cold for squirrels

After the warm days of last week brought them out the squirrels are voting with their feet and staying asleep this week.. I went for a walk this morning before starting work and found the woods were empty apart from dog walkers and and the sounds of birds high up in the trees. On the pond moorhens... I'm cold.

Last night it was rugby paractice. It was also bitterly cold. As I had been working in my shirt sleeves during the day this came as a bit of a surprise. I haven't been warm since. Today I found myself working in two shady gardens and standing on frozen ground. The fresh breeze just added to the... Sign in to see full entry.

Wedding rings, predatory women and disgraceful old age.

I took my wedding ring in to be rejoined today. The swelling of my finger has gone down and measures the same as it used to two weeks ago, give or take half a size. My friends were happy - they got to use their new measuring set. I'm happy because I got an accurate measurement, and because I'll be... Sign in to see full entry.

The joy of socks

We weren't in top form this morning, being late to bed after the birthday party, but we were sharper than H, friend of Number One son. When we called to pick him up he was still in bed. This proved to be the pattern for the day - two members of the Under-13s turned up at the club when they should... Sign in to see full entry.
