Why Does Nobody Listen?

For ‘nobody’ insert the name of your partner. Take last night. The excruciating noise of the thingamajig blared from the TV as the CN news showed the Football World Cup in South Africa. The theme was how Suid Africa would not change after the games were over. [I would have thought that was obvious].... Sign in to see full entry.

Are there Cops in the After-Life?

The question wriggled its way into my subconscious today while I was weeding; BC-A’s comment on my last post helped it to sneak in. It was drizzling today and as far as I could see it was a great day for curling up in an armchair with an endless supply of coffee and some good books and recovering... Sign in to see full entry.

A Smoky Haze

It was a couple of days ago. I was up before Ell and was sitting out on the front porch – we still call it a front porch even although it is liable to be called a collapsed porch fairly soon – and wondering why there as a haze across the river on such a wonderful day. I was also reveling in the fact... Sign in to see full entry.

Finer than Frog Hair?

This is the first time I’ve seen this odd saying. It is in a local paper in an advertisement for a real estate auction. The property for auction is a waterfront pub and the ad states that –‘The panoramic view of the Saint Lawrence river and distant Adirondack mountains has a calming effect that is... Perhaps I have had Dutch Elm Disease

[Please accept my apologies for the lack of reply to your comments. I will get there soon.] …who knows? But what I do know is that I’m still as weak as the proverbial, and I’m back to being in the unmentionable weight range again. When the pharmacist gave me my antibiotics she stressed that the very... Time to batten down the hatches folks.

The big change over is upon us. We survived Monday’s lightning storm and yesterday’s baby sitting with very frayed tempers, and now that that is behind us it’s time to get down to business. It appears that I am getting Ell’s old computer and she is getting the new one –surprise!!. She has all her... Sign in to see full entry.

Freed White Boobies

It must be Spring. Last week the first ships sailed up-river. Today the coastguard caught up with itself and changed the winter pencil buoys for normal navigation buoys. At the mall it was disconcerting to see the acres of dazzling white boobs that had popped out of their winter bras. Also... Sign in to see full entry.

“And I’ve got Dutch Elm Disease.”

Is how I answered the guy in the pool room yesterday. “I’ve got the flu, and I shouldn’t have come in here today,” He had a hangdog expression on his face but that would be partly because his opponent beat him 16 to zero. Me? I at least scored three games, so there. He went on about the wait time at... Sign in to see full entry.

“What’s a Nightmare, Papa, and what’s a Portugal?”

The nightmare I had on Tuesday night. I’m blaming the cream the dermatologist prescribed for me; well, come on, it couldn’t be my own mind could it? I was coerced into a race – a type of continental wide race, and I had problems and shouldn’t have been racing. But at the end of every section, I... Sign in to see full entry.

Southerners V Scots [for ‘Southerners’ read ‘Sassenachs.’]

I couldn't resist posting this. It was sent to me by an Anglo Canadian. You'd think, on St. Paddy's day, he would be slagging off the Irish, wouldn't you? But no, it has to be the Scots;but then that's the English inferiority complex for you. Andy, your copy is being emailed asap. 50F degrees.... Sign in to see full entry.
