A writing prompt...

Cheese Mining on the Moon. It had been a lovely evening, unusually cool and comfortable for mid-August. Jolie opened the sliding doors and set up the buffet table on the terrace. It was the first time she’d played hostess to her friends for several months – she’d been out of town for some time.... Sign in to see full entry.

Reida and the Morning of the Spiders

Reida took a deep breath as she walked along the deer path across the meadow, several minutes now beyond the barn. Mama couldn’t see her from the kitchen door, so she was already liable for punishment, but she didn’t care. She’s seven years old now, she knows the way, and there is sign to read at... Two stories for the collection:

One: Brandon, newly arrived to the St. Louis area from Connecticut - told me his grandma was not Jewish but had to flee Poland from the Nazi's and lived in Africa for 5 years before she could return. Later moved to the U.S. Why the St. Louis area? he said it was love. Online love, in fact on some... Sign in to see full entry.

Pen Pals

The Center and nearby Columbus School have a pen pal program. Mrs. Pinchon's 3rd Grade class (22 boys and girls) write to volunteers at The Center. And the aging children at The Center write back. My pen pal was Ariee. The stationery they used to write the letters was printed at school, with lines... Sign in to see full entry.

Linda Buys Soup Stock

I was grocery shopping. Went to the store after my morning shift at The Center, because I was out of half &half, Windex and something else… now what was it? As always when my supply of soup runs low, I went to the soup aisle to look for the possibility of bargains on my usual. I needed some low... Sign in to see full entry.

Update on Progress of Bloody Hell, etc...

However, since my daughter was coming up from Florida for Mother's Day weekend, and I had some neatening up to do, I decided to put off that task until Monday. We had a great time over the... Six little stories

1. Once all villagers decided to pray for rain. On the day of prayer all the people gathered, but only one boy came with an umbrella. That's FAITH. 2. When you throw babies in the air, they laugh because they know you will catch them. That's TRUST. 3. Every night we go to bed without any assurance... Sign in to see full entry.

Small town reporter, public affairs beat

It was the summer of '78 when I signed up for a Monday night creative writing class. The teacher was Lloyd Kropp, a published sci fi writer who was given a professor's job even though he "only" had a master's degree. I overheard other faculty sniping among themselves that it was unfair to hire a... Sign in to see full entry.

Write Your Story Group Meets

Of the twelve enrolled members, eleven showed up. All the regulars but Lynn, the former coal miner who splits his time between this area and Colorado. Cindy was back and armed for bear, only 3 weeks after getting a new hip installed. She was here last week, too, for the debacle we now refer to as... Sign in to see full entry.

From The Center

There are any number of interesting people who come to The Center to play pinochle or join other crafters for chit chat and needle work. Some who just want something to do and volunteer to deliver the meals on wheels or wash up the coffee cups. Lots of the guys are veterans of wars, and also retired... Sign in to see full entry.
