The pink-collar ghetto of the health-care world
A comment on my last entry to this blog prompted me to return to a specific discussion of nursing and its dominance by women. I've found, in my experience as a chronic health-care consumer, that nursing is indeed a pink-collar ghetto, whether we like the idea or not. I can think of perhaps a handful of men I've known personally who have maintained a nursing practice, and the majority of them are in intensive-care nursing, where the stakes are high and decisions must be made on a split-second...
