As a follow on, I decided several months ago that I should no longer smack my son for anything. I used to patch him once, if he was really doing something that he knew he shouldn’t and it was more for shock value than to hurt him. In fact you should never hit a child to hurt him or her. It is more to let the child know that your displeasure at continued disobedience is immense.
