What goes up...

...eventually comes down. Like the temperature overnight. It's a lovely morning after yesterday's less extreme but still too-hot heat. Yesterday was another Jugger League Day with five Colorado teams participating. Charlie's team, the Marauders, had only five members present so by the end of the day they were pretty tired, and did not have a particularly impressive score. But some of the other teams were gleeful that they'd finally beat the Marauders! One thing I quite like about the juggerers:... Sign in to see full entry.

Thursday adventures

Sitting here at Charlie's workshop, a nice quiet moment until he's done with today's projects and ready to head out again. When he needs to be here for hours I sometimes go home and let him take the bus home whenever he's ready, but today he only will be here a couple of hours or less. This morning I woke up in the cool of the day, got all my deck and back porch plants watered--drenched!--and did a bit of transplanting of the morning glory sprouts to spread them further. There are two sweetpea... Sign in to see full entry.

Hot is back

It still isn't as bad as some other 'heat-domed' parts of the country, but all weekend and most of this week it's 90s for us. Too hot for me when it gets over 80, I'm a heat wuss, when we get to 100s+ here, I'm going to have to find a/c places or go up into the mountains. So far, though, I can either go out driving with a/c on full blast, or downstairs where the temps in the house can be 15, even 20 degrees cooler. I hope your Monday heralds a happy, productive, and most of all, cool enough... Sign in to see full entry.

busy Saturday!

It's hottish today, high 80s, and the clouds are building towards storm to the west. I've just gotten home from another treasure-hunting trip to the thrift store where I found a nice big pot in which to plant the grape vine that's still confined in its little plastic pot. I'll do that in the cool of evening. I've heard that transplanting during the day is harder on the roots. I dropped Charlie off at the workshop and determined that indeed I did not have any more of the yarn to finish the cradle... Sign in to see full entry.

Morning dreamings

Here it is evening after a chilly grey day. The temperature has been around 60 and there's been a light rain all day. After days in the 90s, even verging on 100, this is a relief and I wish it could be shared with you baking in the heat this week. Waking and eating breakfast early, I ended up going back to bed and having interesting dreams of traveling and seeing a huge Saturn in the sky along with but bigger than the moon. I remember putting a lot of effort into finding my camera and a... Sign in to see full entry.

Victor street fair recap

It was a lovely weekend in the mountains! There was some rain on Saturday and gusty wind on Sunday. Wind is the greater challenge at an open-air market. Luckily Charlie's arrangements were adequate, and though some things had to be moved for their protection, nothing was broken or lost. Victor is a hilly town with few streets on the level so the whole fair is on a slant, and Charlie's booth was at the high end of the main street. I wandered around some, and visited the other show held at the... Sign in to see full entry.

Victor CO adventures

Charlie spent this weekend in Victor CO, a little mining town with pioneer roots up in the Rockies southwest of Pike's Peak. He's had a street booth at the Curiosities Festival for the first time, and there will be pictures of that, but today there are some shots of the storm that swept through at sunset last night while he was tucked up in his tent. It was his first street fair, first sale in Victor, and first time to try out the camping gear he's collected for going LARPing. I was up there... Sign in to see full entry.

Friday is cool

The past two days have had highs in the 90s, but today the expected high is not quite 80. Very nice change indeed! Sitting here on the front deck once again, with breakfast and a big glass of ice water. I'm excited to see that seeds have sprouted already in one pot! Looks like the morning glories. Of course I didn't tag the pots to remember what went where, so its a guess, either those or the nastershalums, as Winnie the Pooh would say. On the back porch Charlie installed some pretty metal... Wednesday... Well, it could be worse!

While our Pat B is having troubles with her little red Ruby, my daughter in Seattle matched her: someone in a big pickup truck pulled out too fast and carelessly and smashed Marika's car, taking off a fender and knocking it sideways which looks like chassis damage. And yes, it was a hit'n'run. By great good fortune, my daughter was not in the car at the time. There were witnesses and cameras, and people who got involved, and the driver of the truck may have run off but she didn't get far and was... Sign in to see full entry.

So pleased that after planting the sweet peas yesterday and watering them in a bit, nature had provided some more gently rain to speed along the magic. I hope they make it to blooming this summer. My grandmother used to grow them, and I love their scent! Yesterday's bbq was more of a picnic with large amounts of already-cooked meats and already-cut watermelon and a number of people we don't know and didn't have much in common with. There was no thunder-storming, but the clouds covered the sky... Sign in to see full entry.
