For several years we had a tribe of sparrows living in the low bushes ringing the deck at the back of the house, winter and summer. There was always plenty of food for them in the feeders, and they were safe from the hawks, that tried but never could penetrate into the bushes' interior. Very interesting, how birds will share our "nests" if we let them...

I'm a fan of crows; they devise and use tools, they remember human faces. When I lived in Seattle there was a butler crow who used to announce me whenever I walked down to the corner to wait for the bus. He used a different call for other people - seems it was to warn other crows someone was about to disturb their breakfast.

The crows don't bother the robins here in this yard. But I have seen them chase hawks.

The Crows can be bossy but i think the Blue Jays here are the bossiest and they all bow to the authority of Queen squirrel. The crows are smart too. they know that I won't accept bad behaviour for very long and that they get special rewards if they behave.

Crows do disturb the other birds Perhaps folk are throwing bread down or they are waiting for some. My brother said he only has crows, so there must be a reason somehow. The largest birds I have is pigeons, the crows are around but never venture close.
