Local travel

Yesterday was lovely in the Northwest, sunny and warm. I spent the afternoon walking through on of our local parks, immersed in autumn. Women of the Road

I met an elderly lady--she was turning 83 the next Sunday--in a view-point turnout. She was having her lunch while I was having a flat tire and an even flatter cell phone. My heart felt a pang of sadness...

...when I crossed the line from New Mexico into Colorado. Is it the leaving one, or the entering the other? Both, I'm guessing. Jacenta made me feel 10 again...

That was the summer I saw the Black Hills and Badlands, (which she has posted on recently, with pictures) for the first time. I remember that the road cuts in the Black Hills were dark rock with veins and chunks of rose quartz everywhere! The rose, I have heard, is from gold in the quartz, and the... Barrel Cactus blooming

At New Mexico's Rock Hound State Park, there were dozens of these beauties all bearing both fruit and buds, and almost-blooming flowers. Could not find a single one, however, gazing at the sky with all its wide-open gorgeousness. Sign in to see full entry.
