Wise words indeed.
The more remote your drive, the wiser they are. Last night as we drove U.S. 395 from Spokane to home, it was nice to have a few other cars in a group. The local ski hill had just closed for the evening, so with a constant stream of oncoming cars, my greatest fear was someone losing control. Another survival tactic, follow another vehicle, if one is to be found.

Offy, those are good to have, too, for sure!
I remember in Laura Ingalls' day, those who traveled in the winter would slip well-wrapped baked potatoes in their pockets for the journey-- when it got too cool to keep hands warm, you could always have a snack!

Nautikos, what is your LSW?
My brain is not fully functional for figuring out words without vowels today.

Avant-garde, so many of us forget we have a mortal aspect
that really can be overwhelmed by the elements.
(I emailed you, by the way, regarding your request...)

Yes and I always carry a few of those packets of handwarmers and footwarmers. They are inexpensive and would come in handy for the extremities. I wish everyone who lives under conditions that could turn harsh in a NY second would read this post.... Very informative and probably half don't realize what a few extra minutes of stock could very well save a life...Excellent post my friend!!!

I've seen episodes of
I Shouldn't Be Alive where people have gotten stranded like this. It wasn't pleasant.
