Another day trip to New Zealand

http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/sets/72157625541806295/ The Maori rock carvings on Lake Taupo in the east central region of the North Island are not very old, but they illustrated myth and legend of Maori origins. We went out by boat, the only way to see them, on a grey, misty day. Sign in to see full entry.

Orakei Korako

For some reason, this place has been on my mind lately. It's a very busy thermal area near Lake Tapo, NZ. Throughout that region, one sees great stacks that look just like nuclear power plants, but are, in fact, thermal power plants. I never got a good shot of one, but this is the power they tap... Looking up

Colorado Springs is under a lot of commercial jet travel routes, and we often get quite dramatic shows of condensation trails interacting with sunlight, and with the winds at 30,000 feet altitude, and sometimes with each other. I've collected a few of these. Because these are all scheduled flights,... Sign in to see full entry.

Are you in the mood for a little exotica?

These birds aren't likely to turn up at your bird-feeder if you live very far north of the Equator. I spotted these at the Jurong Bird Park, in Singapore when I visited my daughter there a few years ago. Well, in Singapore. She didn't actually live in the bird park.... Sign in to see full entry.

Dog Park in another season

It doesn't seem so long since we visited Bear Creek Dog Park, but today, the season's changes were more than evident. Of course there are pictures! Woods for Kabu, oaks for Taps, dogs for Naut and Adnohr... My camera went dry before I met Liliane, an elder with three little muffet dogs, and two... Sign in to see full entry.

Pueblo, Colorado

If you have heard of Pueblo, it is likely in relation to one federal government pamphlet or another, or some federal printing project. But visiting there, 40 miles south of Colorado Springs, for one of Charlie's Dinner Detective gigs, I saw a different corner of town. Pueblo's Union Station is on... Sign in to see full entry.

The golden season

That lovely maple outside my deck has made its move, from the lucious green of summer, to autumn gold. In a short time, maybe a week or two, a high wind will blow the gold away for another year, and the trees will all be reaching for the sky with bare dark limbs... That is part of the glory of fall,... Sign in to see full entry.

...and now, for something completely different...

I have been going through old photo files, reorganizing and polishing up, looking for things you might like to see. On a summer weekend a few years ago, in Washington State, there was a Renaissance Faire that featured jousting. Yes, actual horses and riders, jousting in the lists with lances and... Sydney

The wildfires in New South Wales have got me thinking about and remembering my brief visits to Sydney. Altogether, I have spent 5 days there, mostly by the waterfront, an area called The Rocks, if I remember a-right. There was a stroll over the Sydney Harbour Bridge, and a sight-seeing ferry ride... Mountains and skies

The weather turned cool and grey, and when I looked out at the Peak, lo there was snow! Not only that, the sun was setting, and leaking around the back of the cloud cover, just over the mountains. http://www.flickr.com/photos/therovingeye/ Naturally, I had to get a few shots to share...
