Bring provisions...

I just paid nearly $30 for two small trays of sushi at the Keflavik Airport outside Reykjavik. Ridiculous, but at least the sushi wasn't bad. It wasn't great, but far better than your average grocery store sushi. The sun is shining past light clouds and the temperature is ~7C which is ~42F, and windy... Sign in to see full entry.

Final Packing

In a couple of hours we are headed towards Manchester Airport. The flight from there through Reykjavik to Denver CO will take around 11-12 hours and at the end there will be no more 45 minutes to collect my luggage, get through Customs and meet the shuttle to Colorado Springs. If I miss that one, in... Sign in to see full entry.

Hebden Bridge

Heptonstall and Hebden Bridge are two very old towns in the upper Calder valley, West Yorkshire, one at the top of one side of the vale, the other down by the river and canal. We drove down through the narrow old cobbled streets through Heptonstall, then a few miles further along, stopped a while in... Sign in to see full entry.

On the ground again

There was wifi available on the flight, but in Discomfort Economy it isn't free, so I didn't bother with it. Then, once at the house in Whalley there was no wifi for this little notebook laptop I have instead of the huge and heavy laptop I usually have traveled with. My son in law saw it last time... This time, I'm prepared

It never occured to me last time that on a trans-atlantic flight, they would not feed us. Apparently you have to fly 'comfort economy' to be fed, and as I flew 'discomfort economy' I had to pay for any food, selected from their limited menu, at their prices. This time, Im ready for 'em: I spent $8... Sign in to see full entry.

almost OOPS!

I've decided to spare friends the request to drive me to the airport and pick me up again in two weeks. This morning, my neighbor will drop me at a location on his way to work where I will pick up the airport shuttle, and will pick me up again at that place only about 3 miles from home when I... The day before departure

Last time, I left some clothes behind so that this time I can travel lighter. I needed extra space in the luggage to bring home the various items purchased for the costuming shop, and gifts and souvenirs. Knowing I'd be back, it made sense for both reasons, but most of what I left, if I had not made... Sign in to see full entry.

Longest sunset...

Seven hours it took the sun to set, as we chased it 3600 miles across the planet yesterday... The pictures from the flight are pretty poor, even some I posted on flickr just because they were all I had to give you glimpses of the day, of Iceland especially. Across much of the sky, over all of the... Sign in to see full entry.

Rainy day excursion

We went north yesterday across the green and grey rolling landscape towards Bolton Abbey in Yorkshire. It's another old roofless relic of the Dissolution of the Abbeys by Henry VIII and his Cromwell. Abbeys lost their rights and then their roofs, routinely: the lead was wanted elsewhere as much as... Sign in to see full entry.
