Wait For It -- It Sounds Like Justification

Along with the shocking fact that one of the Amman suicide bombers, a fourth, was a woman who failed in her attempt to blow herself to kingdom come (although, since she was married to one of the guys who succeeded, she probably wouldn't qualify for the 72-virgin grand prize but probably would get... Despite the confident pronouncements of pro-Bush analysts, experts, spin-doctors, and a couple of generals in Iraq, the insurgency keeps on grinding away at the American military machine. Five more Americans died today, bringing the total number of Americans killed in Iraq to 2065 (Source: CNN).... Sign in to see full entry.

Body Counts

The Pentagon and the Defense Department, with approval from the White House, no doubt, has begun publishing the number of enemy kills. This is, I'm certain, a direct stab at trying to put the number of American military personnel killed in Iraq into a less disheartening and politically threatening... Sign in to see full entry.

2001

No, this isn't a tribute to Arthur C. Clarke or Stanley Kubrick. It isn't an aside about the effectiveness of classical music in modern film. And it isn't a volatile essay about how machines are taking over our world and dehumanizing it. It is point to be made. A line has been crossed, referred to... Sign in to see full entry.

Insurgents Going For Optimal Photo Op

Three car bombs detonated within ten minutes of each other today in Baghdad, killing at least 6 and wounding 15. Two of the bombs went off outside the Palestine Hotel, which is home to members of the press, while the third went off across the square in front of a mosque -- places where such actions...
