I want to own a television station! Every four years, millions of dollars would be thrust into my hands, to pay for all the national and local political ads. Some of the best dialog writing being done now, is on the weekly TV show, NCIS. I always like a series that makes me feel as though I know the people portrayed in the serial storyline. David, I've been losing sleep, worrying about my ancient cat, and wondering if she's just given up, or going " Marion " on me. I have raised many kittens in my life, and they have all been playful, endearing, and fearless athletes. The maturing process is fueled by an insatiable curiosity, high protein diet, frequent exercise, and an indomitable stubbornness. This new kitten is also blatantly and defiantly EVIL! She knows that much of her daily behavior is prohibited by “ she who MUST be obeyed,” but the kitten is not deterred from doing exactly what she wants to do, and then running off to one of her many hiding places... Have you ever had a “ near-death experience?” I have had MANY! One time, Marilyn asked me what I was thinking, at that particular moment, and I almost TOLD HER! Another time, I fell out of a tree, but luckily for me, the earth broke my fall, or I would STILL be falling! Most recently, Marilyn asked me, “ Who do we both know, that you think is pretty?” I know from past experience, that any question that begins with, “ Who do we both know, ” is a TRICK question! It is a foregone conclusion that our next president will be of Irish extraction. I think that he will be the first Irish president since JFK, and I wonder why? The talking heads on the evening news all say that his campaign has been a tough, uphill struggle, because he is also fighting prejudice, (!) nearly half a century after John Kennedy was elected! Nostalgia for “ the good old days ” is often due to selective memory, but there are many parts of what we accept as normal today, that would horrify the young person I was, when I was growing up. The possibility that hateful, bitter people could or would put razor blades or needles in Halloween treats, tamper with over-the-counter medications, murder dozens or hundreds of innocent people, to make a political or religious statement, if uttered aloud would be thought to be paranoid delusion. If I were suicidal or enough of an adrenalin junky to ever live in Neuw Yawk, I would become very rich riding in the “ Cash Cab!” They show the cab number in brief parts of the show, and anyone who owns a TIVO, or whatever new, improved version that has come out this week, can carefully scan a replay, in slow-motion mode. The four guys in the Holiday Inn commercial, who send a plate of bacon to the young woman, sure are big spenders. Regardless of that, would anybody really expect her to swoon over a plate of BACON? Yeah, right! Whoever pitched this idea to the motel company people must have bacon for brains. Another thing, the effeminate skinny guy who chides them by saying, “See, you guys don’t know anything about women!” ought to have said, “You guys don’t know anything about US women!” The producers of that... With only about two weeks left before Election Day, front yards are sprouting election signs like mushrooms, apparently overnight. There are so many national and local election signs stuck in lawns on my meal delivery route, that someone who covers the county daily, can form an opinion of who will probably win the posts for which they are running.
