How do I change the look, template, or format of my blog?

Thursday, December 28, 2006

I have entered two poems in a blog, how do I get Blogiteers to read them?

Just started with this Blogit thing, but need to start a following.  For what its worth, I have had good reactions to my poetry here in New Jersey at various open mikes.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Gratefully,

Fanfics okay?

Hi; I just signed up.  I've been on blogit before.  I like to write fanfiction sometimes, and I looked around to see what the policy here was.  I've noticed a little fanfiction, usually with disclaimers.  Couldn't find anything that seemed to address it in the policy.  I just wanted to make sure if it was okay?

Thanks! :)

Bannings or Suspension

I have noticed on some other online venues that memberships are sometimes suspended for three days or a week or two. This can allow a situation to calm down and it can also allow for reflection and for all evidence to be considered.

It is something worth looking at as a warning and cautionary measure and for damage limitation. A temporary suspension could be brought into effect rapidly for particular infringements  under a strict code of conduct - regarding language and personal attacks in particular -  but allow room on all sides for a civil retreat.   Instead of waiting for a situation to escalate, a suspension would ease the situation immediately allowing all parties time and space to consider the next step.

Policy Violations / Concern for a blogger

With regard to the recent banning of Blanche, I would like to suggest an improvement to the reporting system so that bloggers find it easier to report violations (and concerns) that they see. If we were encouraged to report violations earlier, then perhaps the Blanche banning might have been avoided and all the hurt that took place too.

At the moment, via the "Conduct Policy" or "Help" links, it is difficult to report concerns we might have. The form takes time to find and you need to know how to copy a link in order to draw attention to a post or comment.

What I would like to suggest is that you create a "Notify Blogit" link next to every post and every comment.

As it does now, your email address would appear, but also the link for the post or comment would be automatically generated.

A form would appear with a drop-down list or checklist where bloggers can indicate which part of the Conduct Policy they are reporting upon. There should also be a box which says: "Other Concern", as we might want to alert you to information which is not a violation.

The current text box for further details should also be included.

At the moment I feel the Blogit 'law' is being taken into private hands when we've got a perfectly good system for tackling violations. It's the reporting that is difficult.

I appreciate this might create extra work in the short term, both with the set-up and the extra reporting it will generate, but in the long term, it will foster a safer environment and may lead to more bloggers using the site.

Thanks for considering this.

Is there anybody there?

I would like some sort of reply or acknowledgement to the private email I sent you on Tuesday. You say you normally reply to emails within one day, but I'm still waiting. I appreciate you may have had a good deal of correspondence this week, but if that's the case, why not make an announcement about this somewhere on the site.

I have much more I would like to say to you via email, but until I get a reply to the first one, this avenue of dialogue cannot be opened.

Thank you.

Dave Cryer.
