Note on Response

If you haven't read the BNStaff's response to yesterday's discussion you can read it here.

I don't have a licence

Can I write an how to on how to make money in the stock market?

The post will be over here:

http://www.bloggingnetwork.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/MrsIL96_Stocks/86337

I will not post anything until I hear from you. If I am not allowed to do this, I will just change the blogg to something else.

Question about policy?

Have you ever ran across an ad and you really wanted to purchase the product? I have. I was wondering, could I post a blog with the headline to the effect of:

Have you ever purchased these products?

If you have I would like your honest opinion and review, because I am thinking about buying this.

The reason why I am asking is because I see so many things on the Internet that I would love to purchase, but I can't afford to loose money if my purchase is a waste of my valuable time. I have purchased and tried so many products and have gotten burned big time.

So what can or can't I do.

I am also asking this, because I was warned about 2 posts that I put up that were deleted in my blogg over here about finding work on the Internet:

http://www.bloggingnetwork.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/MrsIL96s_Bloggs/

I just want to be a good blogger and follow policy, but I am a bit unclear as to policy on this issue.

Plug-Ins for Mozilla?

Does anybody know if there are plug-ins for Mozilla Firebird at all, that will allow the editing toolbar to come up in the browser when I add posts?

I use Firebird as my primary browser in the office, and it works great on every site except BN! I have to keep changing my connection settings on IE for when I'm at home so I keep the two browsers running separately, hence one versus the other.

Thanks For Doing At Least This Much . . .

I've seen both the 'apology' to the members of the BN and the apology to the BN staff offered in writing by dknowles. I have also seen an overwhelming amount of support for him, in writing, on the BN in the form of blogs and comments. I've even seen the two bloggers the were most offended say, in writing, that they did not report him for any violation and thought banning was a bit more than they would have wanted for him. I've also seen the comments to the BN staff that he made in the heat of debate . . . much, much less than you find on the daily BN fare, I assure you. If the general BN membership can forgive him, why cannot the BN staff? By taking a 'holier than tho' stand on this, I believe you are creating an 'us against you' atmosphere and I will not stay in that situation. We understand what the code of conduct says . . . we are waiting to see how fairly it is interrupted or if you listen to the majority of your members . . .

BN policies

The vast majority of BN members never violate BN policy. To understand what is considered a violation, please see the Conduct Policy and the Policies page. Please let us know if there are any questions that we can answer.

An important objective of the policies is to allow everyone an equal opportunity to participate. If any part of the Conduct Policy or other policies is not clear, we welcome suggestions for improvements. Please send suggestions to us and we will review them for possible incorporation.

The violation review process

Since there are over 200,000 posts and comments on BN, we cannot monitor each one. In a typical scenario, a member reports a potential violation of BN policy. Reviewing reports is a difficult and time-consuming process, but we do our best to investigate each report as carefully as possible. We do not take action simply because of the report.

When appropriate, the relevant item is removed and a warning is issued. The most common violation is verbal abuse of another member. Please note that to protect the privacy of those who report violations, we do not publish details of violations.

If a member repeatedly violates BN policy, e.g. continues to abuse others or deliberately attempts to disrupt the site, we have no choice but to suspend their account. Naturally, we never prefer to have to suspend a member, so such a decision is never taken lightly.

After a member has been suspended, any unused portion of their subscription is refunded. In the past, we have reinstated some members following an apology. Sadly, we have found from experience that those members tend to continue their original behavior, so it is not clear that reinstatement is useful.

Specific issues

On profanity, the use of profanity is not generally a violation of policy – one exception being verbal abuse directed at other members. We welcome input on this issue.

Regarding "making fun of made up names", there is a difference between parody and activities such as harassment or verbal abuse. The former is not a violation of BN policy, but the latter is. We provide examples in the Conduct Policy, along with links to relevant resources.

On public figures, it is not a violation to call public figures names. The Conduct Policy specifically refers to other members.

Regarding publishing specifics about a violation, we will certainly consider doing so. One major challenge is that publishing specifics about a violation report may lead to certain people attacking the reporter of the violation or the target of the violation – even if the target did not report the violation. Since such actions would discourage violation reports, this is a significant concern. It is unclear whether this can be avoided.

(This post has been edited slightly for clarity.)

My thought on what BN did.
