We certainly wish we never had to suspend a member in the first place. After all, the vast majority of BN members never violate BN policy, and BN members would prefer us to be improving BN instead of reviewing violation reports.

That is why we try to make the Conduct Policy as clear as possible, and why we continually ask members to help us improve it.

As you know, we do not publish case details for privacy reasons. What we can tell you is that in general, we only suspend a member for repeated violations. Making the decision is not easy or enjoyable, but we do our best to be fair and objective. As mentioned in the earlier post, we have reinstated members because they apologized; however, we will likely not do so in the future, since it appears not to change behavior.

On the issue of member opinion, since we also receive private emails from members regarding BN policy, we are seeing a different picture. Not surprisingly, it appears that many are reluctant to voice their opinion publicly to avoid becoming a target.
