HAPPY BIRTHDAY SON

Today's my son Rich's 62nd birthday. He was my 4th child, born about two weeks ahead of schedule at 7:38 a.m. after a very short labor. He weighed four ounces more than his next older brother had weighed at birth. His brother had arrived on the 27th of the month, in 1961, Rich came along on the 21st... Sign in to see full entry.

HAPPY PRIMARY DAY

There were primary elections yesterday in several states, including this one. I had already voted by mail and was eager to see if my votes were winners. It seems they were. Was not surprised to see certain clowns sounding off as usual on TV. The haters were out there. (jerks) It was good that so... Sign in to see full entry.

SPRING...

A long time ago I went to a live matinee performance one Saturday to see Smiley Burnette, sidekick to famous cowboy actors Gene Autrey and Roy Rogers. He appeared in costume, big ol' cowboy hat, embroidered fancy western shirt, bolo tie, cowboy boots and all, and spoke with a studied western drawl.... Sign in to see full entry.

TALES FROM LONG AGO AND FAR AWAY

It was winter in the foothills. Big blustery winds came whistling down from the high Cascades, dropping snow and drifting it against the least obstacles. No matter how urgent the need to get to the outhouse - some 50 feet from the kitchen door - there was no path through the knee-high snow. She... Sign in to see full entry.

OLD SONG

Appropriate for St. Paddy's day, I hope "I'm looking over a four-leaf clover, That I overlooked before. One leaf is sunshine, the second is rain. Third is the roses that grow in the lane. No need explaining, the one remaining, It's somebody I adore. I'm looking over a four-leaf clover That I... Sign in to see full entry.

PATCHWORK

Thinking this morning of starting the bio. The life and times of Grandma Patch, before she was a grandma, before she learned that what she'd assumed about life at the age of 17 was mostly wrong. Where to begin? How she learned the truth of the old adage "marry in haste, repent at leisure"? Her high... Sign in to see full entry.

DAYS OF OUR BACKYARD SQUIRRELS

Madame WhiteEars dashed across the brick street. She crossed the sidewalk. In the flick of her tail she was up the maple tree. But it had changed. It was no longer the familiar stop along the aerial highway. The troop had used those maples as a route for safe passage, high above the low growing... Sign in to see full entry.

TRYING TRUMP TODAY

Our former president, the one who claims he has the absolute right to do any damn thing he wants, and that our government's top-secret files were his personal property to share as he wished after he left office, is to testify in a Florida court today. You knew this. My fingers are crossed today's... Sign in to see full entry.

GAMES

"Hello everybody, welcome to Family Feud. I'm your man, Steve Harvey." I have been watching the Game Show Network a lot these evenings in an attempt to avoid politics. "Family Feud" seems to carry a lot of program hours. Steve Harvey is a multi-talented, interesting host. He started out as a... Sign in to see full entry.

VOTE!

You may be sick & tired of the political campaigns, tired of the same-old / same-old stories and points of view - as I am. I just want them to shut the hell up. Sick and tired of the yammering, the repetition, the mudslinging. So I'm going to vote. It may be only one measly little vote, but if you... Sign in to see full entry.
