Talk about going into orbit over a man!

Shuttle astronaut Lisa Marie Nowak was released on bail recently, after being arrested on charges of attempting to kidnap someone she felt was a rival for the affections of fellow astronaut William Oefelin. The irony is that Nowak is a married mother, while Oefelin is single. Although both of them have flown on the shuttle named Discovery, each flew on that shuttle at different times; Nowak was on the crew which flew last July, while Oefelin piloted a December Discovery mission. Someone denied... Sign in to see full entry.

Break out the black bunting (unless you live in Green Bay or Indianapolis)

The Bears lost the Super Bowl. Frankly, I couldn't be happier, even though I live in Chicagoland. This means - 1. No parade downtown. 2. Since there is no shuttle launch this year, there is no possibility that there will be a major news story coming out of NASA in two days. (In 1986, Challenger exploded two days after the Bears won Super Bowl XX.) 3. Garfield may finally be successful at persuading the Monsters of the Midway to go into hibernation, instead of to Hawai'i to play in the Pro Bowl.... Sign in to see full entry.

Busy, busy, busy (it helps at least my fingers stay warm)

Anyone following the news lately might be aware that parts of the Midwest are suffering a brutal cold snap. It's only supposed to get colder here in Chicagoland over the next few days; in fact, there's a wind-chill advisory for us, effective until sometime Tuesday. The Chicago media - easy enough for us here in the 'burbs to access - have been hammering home the differences between Chicagoland weather and that in Miami, because the Bears are in the Super Bowl. They're applying sunscreen and... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh, no - not again

This is another one of those days. Just as I started to work on my writing - after a two-hour nap and cuddle session with Michael - there was a knock on the door. Because I was trying to do something productive, I ignored it until the knock became a banging. I answered the door, to find a security service waiting to install strobe lights attached to our fire-alarm system. (You might have seen similar strobe lights in public buildings. If a fire alarm sounds, the strobe lights are supposed to... Sign in to see full entry.

So far, so good - at least on one front

I'm starting to see the fruits of my labor on another writing website. (I'm nervous about mentioning it, even though I found out about it on Blogit from another Blogit subscriber, because I don't really want to spam Blogit or violate the Blogit TOS. I'd be glad to mention this other website privately, though.) This is very good news. And, I'm glad my daughter is working on her Blogit blog, too; every penny really helps. There are two things I see on the horizon. One thing is that I hope to stay... Sign in to see full entry.

We're not here to start no trouble...

We're just here to do the Super Bowl Shuffle! All right - so I live in Chicagoland. The airwaves - even the freebie stations that you can get if you don't have cable - are saturated with Super Bowl hype. It's like October 2005 all over again, only this time, the Bears pushed E. Howard Hunt off the front pages. (Back in 2005, the White Sox pushed Rosa Parks off the front pages - it was a case of "all Sox, all the time, and by the way, Rosa Parks died - let's get back to the Sox.") There are any... I know weekends are slow around here, but...

I wanted to stay in the habit of posting entries in this blog at least once daily, just to assure that I still had readership. Today was one of those days that I dread. Given my recent health history, my endurance has been on the low end of normal of late, and I just dread weekends, which tend to get very busy around here. Garfield has every right to worry about my health. She does an excellent job as a feline nurse, and I'm glad she's there for me. The actual activites in which we engaged were... Hold your wee for a Wii: The dangers of water intoxication

"Hold your wee for a Wii" was the actual title of a contest held by a US radio station - I forget where - in which contestants were instructed to drink as much water as possible, in as short a time as possible, without urinating - in other words, drink as much water as you can, as fast as you can, and hold on to the resulting urine as long as you can, and you'll win a Wii. Jennifer Strange did her best to do just that - she did try to "hold her wee for a Wii" for her children. Reports varied as... Sign in to see full entry.

Getting motivated

Today, I've had a difficult time getting motivated. There has just been too much interesting "stuff" on the History Channel in particular. That's an occupational hazard of being home full-time. I don't care if you're a healthy stay-at-home mom or someone like me, who has a hard time (due to physical and emotional problems) with the nine-to-five routine. Staying at home all the time is rough on the motivation. If you know you have to be at work by 8:00 in the morning, that's a significant... Sign in to see full entry.

Just one of those days

I haven't been writing much on any of my writing sites today because I've had some stomach problems all day, and a mild headache. (No, I don't think it's got anything to do with carbon monoxide, as the CO detector hasn't gone off since I had it replaced yesterday. I'm grateful for that, though, but I have some theories as to why I'm feeling a bit "off." I'll share those theories in another entry, if I don't do so later in this one.) I've thought about my debt problems today, as I've been taking... Sign in to see full entry.
