It has been a full on couple of days

My friend's mother is very bad and in her last hours. Her daughter is with a mutual friend and her two children. I will take them for a few hours tomorrow to give her a break and allow her to do some paper work. My son needs to be enrolled in school tomorrow and I need to work on this case and get myself some sort of job in the next few weeks and exercise despite my bad back. I am looking for a new place to live in the next few months as I want something smaller if I can not find a suitable... Sign in to see full entry.

Bidding Pesach adieu

and counting the Omer down to Shavout! It is sad that Pesach is over but I am sure we will have other Pesachs now to look forward to or Moishiah will come and we will all be in Jerusalem. Now it is all tidying up and getting all the dishes away. I am feeling not so happy as my friend and neighbour is dealing with her mother dying of cancer and having a horrid time with her sister treating her really badly. Her sister sent her a vile letter with many strange and jealous accusations. My friend has... Sign in to see full entry.

This was given to me by a very dear friend

on a little wall plaque and I have rewritten it and will get it translated into Hebrew by a friend and give it to another friend who is an artist to make some wall hangings of it. In the rewritten version you will see what worried me about the original. I leave it to readers to comment on what they think. The Original is Be strong and don't give up Remember, there is a deeper strength and an amazing abundance of peace available to you. Draw from this well; call on your faith to uphold you. Now... Reflections on bondage and freedom over Pesach

I have been reading two interesting texts lately. One is aptly titled ‘God is a Verb’ and as an ex English teacher that appeals to my sense of grammatical rightness, as well as the philosophical awareness of a supreme creative being that is in a continual state of creation. One of the Hebrew words for G-d encompasses the sense of past, present and future and I understood that somewhere during my first year of learning Hebrew with a teacher also called Ilana at Victoria College at the Toorak... Faith is a flame

and as such needs the oxygen of our complete belief in a greater power to sustain it. Many will try to destroy or to belittle faith or belief in a divine Creator or an infinite entity that has ultimate power and yet allows us the power to create and form our own destinies. Some can be very jealous and indeed try to feel more powerful or 'better' than someone who is a practicing religious person. I had a long talk today with a friend who lives in the country. I had intended it to be a short... Sign in to see full entry.

Well I am out of action for the rest of the week. Pesach starts tomorrow!

I am finishing off my cleaning and I find that I have a lot more things tucked away in the Pesach bins than I had thought from last year. I still have to go and tovel some new things, but I am not panicking and just trying to take every thing in my stride. Tired so tired and it is not just Pesach. It is the depression with regard to my job status and the destruction of my profession by a couple of unprincipled people. Pesach is about renewal and liberation. Let's hope Hashem hears my davening... Sign in to see full entry.

family bonds

A family can make or break you if they choose to do. Bad blood can carve a hole in your psyche that is hard to heal. When a family member is rejected it is often because the other members of the family fail to acknowledge or accept that person as a whole functioning unit or being apart from a preconceived notion of what they believe a sister or brother or father or mother should be. They will make firm judgements about what that person should or should not do or be and will not allow that person... Sign in to see full entry.

A Soul Garment

Blood binds us early on Friends thin the bonds somewhat Until we understand If all is well or not, That the same mother That the same father can draw us apart or push us together If we are brothers If we are sisters We share common experiences We share common goals To make our way in life To find a partner To build our own family Our lives interlock And with all good cloth There is a tight interweave Of values, beliefs and derck aretz That is a soul garment to clothe our nakedness. This article... Sign in to see full entry.

Connections discontinued ...

Her voices twist over the line, We talk crossed wires Tangled threads of box jellyfish Float in the water Snaking between us Swimmers who manoeuvre Through the threads of time’s past Waiting to catch bare skin And etch a word in. Stung before, too many times recently, I wonder what is caring? Is it about trying To heal? Is it about dying Inside? Is it about crying A voiceless scream That echoes Through the night That echoes Through the day When there is no one To know When there is no one To see... Sign in to see full entry.
