9/11 the day after

Last night I went out and did exactly as I said I would do--I went to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade to watch the lights from Ground Zero. Unfortunately (for me), about half of Brooklyn had the same idea, and I was stuck watching the memorial with a news crew and dozens of people milling around. The lights were gorgeous, and an airplane kept flying around and through the lights, symbolically re-creating the events of 9/11. Up, down, and through, over and over again. It was all very poingmant,... Sign in to see full entry.

Some people are going too far

I've written about how my college is going co-ed. We're not the first, and sadly, we definitely won't be the last. But R-MWC students and alumnae are going too far! Here's how: Students are actually BOYCOTTING going to class today. Not only are they not going to class, they won't eat in the dining hall or use any of the facilities. Happy Monday!

Not surprisingly, there was heightened security in New York due to the 9/11 anniversary. Lots more police officers in subways, stores, etc. Nothing's happened and I don't expect it to. Maybe this evening after it gets dark I'll walk over to the promenade and watch the WTC site. Its hard to believe that its so close, as the crow flies, to where I live. M asked me if I was going to go down to Ground Zero this evening; don't know if I will since I hate crowds and tourists. Though, in some ways, I... Sign in to see full entry.

More of the weekend

Last night R invited one of his friends, M, over. This is one of the guys who helped us move into the apartment--can it be--nearly a month ago? Hard to beleive. R, ever the chef, made dinner of pasta. He's actually quite good at cooking--more than I can say for myself! Anyways, after dinner R, M, and I went over to the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, which gives you an absolutely gorgeous view of Manhattan. At night, and so close to the 5th anniversary of 9/11 (the lights from Ground Zero are on... Sign in to see full entry.

A little disappointed

I mentioned about a week ago the fact that my college is considering going co-ed. I received a brochure from the college that outlined its position on the matter. The brochure claims that the board had a decision to make: they could remain a women's college and no longer be a "college of excellence," or they could become co-ed and have the means to continue R-MWC as a "college of excellence." I put that last phrase in quotes because I honestly have no idea what it means. It was at that point... Sign in to see full entry.
