Writing New York Stories

I'm taking a class for the next eight weeks through mediabistro.com, which is a networking site for professionals in the media industries. Job listings are posted there, there's a marketplace for freelancers, you can get daily newsfeeds on your industry, and there are also courses you can take for your own edification, more or less. The course I'm taking is called Writing New York Stories--we do just that. The instructor is a senior editor at Penguin in children's books, and there are six... Sign in to see full entry.

Book review

About a month ago, I decided to keep book reviews. There was even a separate blog for it, but I didn't have the time or energy to manage its upkeep, so I deleted it. Anyways, I'm back on track now. How to write a query letter, and other topics

I can’t say I’m an expert on the subject, but I’ve learned a lot of really interesting things during my first day as an intern at a literary agent’s. Part of my job is shifting through the “slush”... Sign in to see full entry.

Lazy Saturday

I've been lounging around all day... I've got this cold that hit me all of a sudden a few days before I left to come home. So I know it's not something I got on the plane ride. I begin my internship the day after tomorrow, and I'm really excited about and looking forward to that. Anyways, that's about it right now... nothing truly exciting going on. Have a great evening! Sign in to see full entry.

Its date night for me

...well, I'm not really going out on one, but I wanted to devote this post to the subject of them. I've found that you can tell a lot about a guy and his intentions towards you based upon the venue(s) he chooses for a first date. For example: He suggests drinks, and drinks alone: he wants to get in your pants, as fast as possible. He suggests coffee: He thinks of you as a friend, but he's giving you another chance to change his mind. He suggests dinner and a movie: He's a conventional guy who's... Sign in to see full entry.
