A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

I just got off the phone with my mom. Our conversation lasted about 25 minutes, and she kept talking about M--not something I wanted to get into. I've been kind of incommunicado with her recently, with everything that's been going on; she keeps leaving my voicemail messages, saying things such as, "I need to know that you're not injecting heroin or hooking up with random people." I went out with my roommate and two of his other friends, who we'd been with, albeit briefly, the night before. We went to a bar on 14th street that gives you free pizza with your drinks. J immediately hit it off with two girls over a computer game in the bar we were in, and I heard later that he hooked up with one of them. What can you say, it's J. With a friend I met through my publishing class. She called me up, saying let's hang out somewhere. Since we live on completely different subway lines, we decided that the best place to meet would be in Union Square. A is a very talkative person, and as we walked down Broadway, she kep telling me this story about her ex boyfriend that was very funny. I never expected it, but he responded to an e-mail I sent him about a week ago, telling him my background. I don't intend to answer the e-mail, because from now on I'm going to be a bigger person from that. Apparently, the girl he was with for three years, and who he lived with for a year, broke up with him at the end of her senior year, telling him that she liked another guy.
