oops
So, I didn't notice until I went to unbutton my shirt that I'd been wearing it inside out all day. It was a going-out day, too, involving a lot of public contact. Good thing I have traded in embarrassment for the ability to laugh at myself. I read of a 92 year old woman who used her card at an ATM... Sign in to see full entry.

Your favorite exotic fruit...?
Now and then, I am tempted to try some of the strange and unfamiliar items on offer at the grocery store. Some have been disappointing, none have been awful... but I have a taste for dragonfruit! This one I first tried in Singapore, and associated it with Asia, but it turns out to be a South... Sign in to see full entry.

Best and deepest films...
Watched David Lean's DOCTOR ZHIVAGO today, and now I am wondering some things. This was made in 1965. What movies in the decades since have been as powerful, reached as deep into the heart and gut as this one? LITTLE BIG MAN (1970) did it. Branaugh's HENRY V is nearly there. There have been quite a... Sign in to see full entry.

What did they say...?
Have you ever heard a phrase or a statement that suddenly shifted your path in life? Received a piece of advice that has stayed with you all through the years? Maybe it was a re-frame of some truth you'd been carrying around sideways...? Sign in to see full entry.

nemesis: food
What is your food nemesis? The thing you most often don't resist, that does you no good service while it makes your mouth happy? Mine...? Buttered toast especially with honey. A variation would be buttered waffle with maple syrup. (Talking real maple syrup, here. No other kind is worth putting in my... Sign in to see full entry.

Music of Childhood
I've just inherited my father's record collection, and the slightly archaic device on which to play them. In fact, I was thinking sadly only a couple of weeks back about how much of the music I grew up with--ethnic and folk--simply isn't played anymore, and that I could only hear, distantly, the... Fashions of the Elder Days
I remember a few of my favorite clothes from when I was around 4 or 5 years old, living with my grandparents in Northern California. I remember some cowboy boots, and a flaring tiered skift, and a particular dress I wore when we took Christmas card photos. It had a kind of German look, with lacing... Sign in to see full entry.

What could you teach...?
If schools were as unsafe for students when my kids were in public schools, as they are currently, I have would have considered keeping them home, but I have never had the temperament to home-school my kids. I still don't, but have realized that there are certain things I could teach if the... Sign in to see full entry.

For the birds
... squirrels, raccoons, and others... I know some can be problems, like raccoons in the garbage, but I enjoy their visits. I have enjoyed the skunks, the possums, and especially Madame La Darque, my little black squirrel who visited almost daily here for a year and a half. A fox came by one... Sign in to see full entry.
