And here it is again: today's high temperature was 34 at 5 am. Now, at 8, it's below 30 and little white flakes dance in the air. Yesterday the high was in the 60s. Yep, winter in Colorado Springs. Charlie and I applied to lease the space we looked at the other day, and we are holding the horses back as we wait for approval. Once the lease comes and is signed, we'll be able to shift all our stuff out of the storage place, and apply the money we pay for that to the rent on the workshop. There is... Tuesday and new notions in the works
It has been a sunny morning, and temps rising towards the high 50s today. Charlie and I may be on the verge of embarking on a significant career move. I've got a bunch of cash loosened up and I've decided to give some of it to him, to invest in his success. He's looking for a properly spaceous workshop which will allow us to move out of the current storage space. My costuming collection will also move, therefore, and we're looking at renewing official business documents in order to have a proper... Sign in to see full entry.

Weekend arriving...
Another sunny Friday, aiming for low 60s temps this afternoon! I alway told my kids they could not have pet bugs, tarantulas, for example, because sooner or later every caged critter gets out! Yesterday proved me right again: I found Caliban clinging to the curtain above his habitat. My fault for leaving a gap in the roof of the tank after servicing the waterworks and offering snacks, which he declined. He was not pleased when I plucked him off the curtain with my talon-like paw, getting all... Sign in to see full entry.

Monday again...
Another week begins... not as warm as yesterday but not cold; sunny and bright and Caliban was up in his basking corner limned with light. We did another photo shoot of him and his habitat which gets improved day by day. I've found a larger bottle for the mister, and added another potted orchid to deal with the over-abundance of water from the drip hose that was flooding the bottom of the tank. The saliginella moss sucks up some of it, but not enough. https://flic.kr/ps/rhS1C There are a few... Sign in to see full entry.

Waking to another Friday
This day starts cold and dreary outside, warm and light here inside. It is a moment of conscious gratitude that I am here, that I have enough, that nothing threatens. There is the happy consciousness that every winter gives way eventually to spring, and that weather in these parts may be bleak one day, but generous and lovely another day soon. I went to a yarn store yesterday--didn't know it existed until I really needed some good yarns for current and future hookery. They did not have the... Sign in to see full entry.

Hooked on yarn
Night falls, and so does the temperature, down to the 20s tonight. The past several days I have been working the tcrochet hook. I dug into some of my old yarn stashes, determined to use up the odds and ends accumulated over the years. I am making what I call 'drink holsters.' These are pouches of a suitable size to carry a soda or a water bottle to hang around the neck or crosswise from the shoulder to free up the hands. Of course, things besides drinks can be carried, too. Charlie took some... Sign in to see full entry.

Messy business
Charlie is back from his long weekend at the LARPing. It was quite an event! As head of the props team, he and the team had to be there early, getting to the site Thursday afternoon to put it all together for the players who came in on Friday. The weather was a bit grim, with snow blowing across the road and heavy fog out towards the site, temps in the teens during the day. Night was even colder... but the next day things warmed up. So--I was somewhat worried about driving up the unpaved,... Sign in to see full entry.

Driving snow
I did drive Charlie out to the game site after all. The afternoon never got above the 20s, and when we left the house around 3:30, a few flakes were flying in the air. By the time we reached Elbert Road, the last 18-mile stretch before the camp, snow was blowing across the pavement and fog was getting thick. Mostly, until the last few miles, though, the pavement was clear. Cattle still grazed in the fields alongside the road, and there sides were frosted with snow. What really blew me away was... Soooo cold today!
The sun is shining through the back door, and Caliban is a happy apple-green in his fog-misted habitat. I'm happy because I discovered why the guest room is always cold: th e vent in the ceiling has been closed! So I climbed up and thumbed it open, without killing myself with another tumble. Charlie wants to go out to the camp a day ahead of the Alliance LARP weekend, getting together with the set-up team, but I'm hoping they'll postpone, it is so cold! The drive out there also gives me some... Sign in to see full entry.

Wednesday weather and stuff
Cold is blowing in on gusty winds this morning, snow expected later, and temps down from near 60 yesterday to the teens today, negatives with wind chill tonight. We'll be back in the 50s on Saturday. Now, due to one thing or another, the wifi is down. Wind is a likely culprit. Since I piggyback on the wifi account next door, there is nothing for me to do about except wait. At least I can write here until the internet is again accessible. And here it is, back again... It has been back a while,... Sign in to see full entry.
