Re: CCT,
When the weather turns warm, and the sun shines on the east side of the house all morning, the pipes thaw out, as they did again yesterday. I think they are pvc which isn't as prone to breaking as copper pipes.
When it gets hot, as it is bound to do, I will enjoy a nice cool shower... I never want an icy one!

Ciel I would be more worried lest your frozen pipes leak as they thaw I would try and get the water through somehow and keep it moving. I usually lift the trap door in the attic if it is very cold just to stop the tanks freezing, although it is insulated. Perhaps you would like a cold shower on a blazing hot Summer day. I'll remind you when you say you cannot stand the heat .

Re: JimmyA,
that sounds painful! My dad had a problem like that when he was teaching, and it turned out to be chalk dust drying out his fingers. It could also be fungal, which creams won't help unless they are specific for that. Clotrimazol cream, for instance.

That almost sounds like an oxymoron - 'frozen hot water.' But I know what you mean about those hot showers! Really nothing like it! Right now, the biggest thing I'm struggling with connected to the frigid weather is that most of my fingertips are actually cracking and splitting along the edges of the nails! Very painful! I've already gone through 2 bottles of creams and lotions . . .

It has been quite the winter thus far, with it feeling like there is no end in sight...I, too, am glad that the days are getting longer.

Re: TAPS,
I sympathize... hate the smell of certain cleaners, Lysol one of the worst! I have never used Tilex. And perhaps like me, you are super sensitive to smells in the house. Some seem to get in your nose and just stay and stay and stay... Ammonia is one of those.

Not enjoying my shower much today. It is stinking up the whole bathroom. I noticed the grout around the tub was beginning to show black mold so I sprayed it heavily with Tilex. That stuff stinks. I'm leaving it on for the rest of the day so it can work really good. Then I asked Son if there was any black mold in his shower and he said yes so I gave him the other half of the Tilex. Now his stinks too. I hope it will take care of it. First time in all the years we've been here that mold has shown its face.

Re: Wiley,
Maybe you can get a more powerful showerhead installed upstairs? I plan to do that--It's on The List, but not yet at the top.

I too enjoy the shower I put in downstairs, but my legs are bad new so I don't get down there easily, Shame too because we called a guy this year to install a more formidable one too.

Re: Pat,
Indeed! And where the heat bill goes to Starbuck's or Panera's, instead of to me.

Re: Kabu,
I love a bath in a big wide, deep tub... soaking and reading... marvelous! The getting out, yes, that takes some managing if it isn't wide enough.

I think the place to be on frigid zero minus days like this one is
anyplace indoors where there's access to hot coffee.
