This morning, clear and cool and lovely, Charlie put on his Official Court Drummer kit and went off to open the 2015 Colorado Renaissance Festival. He travels with another member of the Court, so our old truck did not have to make the trip, and I did not give into the temptation to spend 10 hours wandering about the Festival, exhausting myself when I am already not feeling 100%. Jet lag... heat lag... maybe something I ate... It is a wiser course to stay home, napping at will. It is now... Sign in to see full entry.

Weighty thoughts...
Stepped on the scale this morning... and did some figuring, some connection of dots over the past few years, and the bottom line: In the past 11 years I have dropped 65 lbs. I used to walk around, even up stairs and long slopes with those 65 lbs. I used to carry them around on my feet and knees and spine. If I were to now put on a coat of many pockets, and fill those pockets with 65 lbs of stuff. I would not be able to stand, let alone go up stairs! If I put that coat on today loaded with 15 or... Annicita, you asked for this...
Downham Village rests under Pendle Hill in northern Lancashire, a village owned by one man, Lord Clitheroe, who likes things the way they were. There are no antennas or satellite dishes allowed, no overhead utilities--only vehicles owned by his tenants who live in this sweet corner of the Ribble Valley--fewer than 200 residents. Film makers love this place! https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/05D750 Sign in to see full entry.

In flight... and landed
Here are yesterday's in-flight entertainment. Being on the left and mostly sunny side of the plane, even with a window seat, photos aren't going to do justice to the view, so it is mostly the start of the flight to Atlanta, and the last hour of the flight to Colorado Springs. What I can't show you is the route that went northwestwards over the Atlantic, passing south of Greenland (probably visible out someone else's window, dammit, not mine!) then turned southwest to fly over Newfoundland and... Bags are packed and ready to go...
They're standing there beside the door... As comfortable as I am in this quiet green place, with morning birds singing outside the window, and sunlight coming between the clouds to light the valley in patches, I am glad to be heading back to my 'real' world where there is much to do before I can seriously consider things like moving for real to this part of the world. Yesterday evening we had dinner in a nice little town nearby which is owned entirely by Lord Clitherow, and rented to residents,... Sign in to see full entry.
Last Days in England
Last day in England... I came to soak up history and scenery and... just being here. I came to spend quality time with my middle-kid and her husband, and to get better acquainted with relatives in the area. I came for things I've wanted to make real for 50 years, and for surprises I never knew of. Well, these things have all been accomplished. And I am tantalized by all the things I haven't seen or done or walked around in... Yesterday we had another drive over the Ribble countryside and shared... Sign in to see full entry.

Oxfordshire journey
Saturday was a delight, not planned far in advance, nor even expected when this trip began, but as things happened, meeting up became the open door. My most gracious and generous host invited me in and let me wander around the place he lives, garden and all. He fed me and told me stories and listened to mine, and showed me the countryside, flying over it like a couple of birds... Sometimes, meeting someone from a world quite different from your own, you wonder if different habits of being will... Sign in to see full entry.

Oxford Weekend
Tomorrow morning very very early, we will drive to Oxfordshire. Just a few miles from Oxford itself, my daughter will be attending a seminar with her pup, Ripley. I will have Saturday and Sunday to explore. Saturday is expected to be a fine day, and that suggests outdoorsy explorations. I'm not sure specifically where, though there will be at least one garden in it where I expect to find a gnome or two. Sunday, when They say there will be water falling from the skies, it will possibly be an... Sign in to see full entry.

The Tolkien Trail photos...
are up on flickr finally. Usually, I put them up in the order I want to share them, which is to say, most recent at the top of the photostream, and meant to be viewed from downstream where the current selection starts. This time, the top of the stream shows the first ones taken which for reasons unknown did not want to load the first time around. But the trail is a loop, after all, so does it really matter? Not so much, this time. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/807w5u...plus, some pretty... Sign in to see full entry.

Doh...!
We walked a stretch of the Tolkien Trail yesterday. It was lovely and there will be pictures, and once again, my luck proved true: When I went tumbling face-first down a bank above the River Hodder, nothing got devastatingly damaged, and greatest most unlikely luck of all, I did not land face-first in a patch of nettles! Considering that nettles grow rampant just about on every piece of green ground around here, that was truly lucky! Luckily, also, there were no horses to a-fright by my no-doubt...
