The Party was arranged for a pizza place that is very old-West, sort of Victorian grand decor, that has good pizza and a decent salad bar, a kind of unique and fun place. Five friends turned up, along with Charlie and me, and we had a great time! Brian and Maelle who got married in July are just back from their honeymoon in Sydney, Australia, and you can bet I wanted to hear all about it! They went to several places I have been to, including the wonderful Botanic Gardens, and a jaunt out to the... Sign in to see full entry.

So, I'm older today than I've ever been...
Of course that's true every day, but today the numbers flip over. I've made it to 64. A while back, the notion entered my head that this lifetime would end at 63. And yet, here I am. I'm pleased: the notion or premonition or whatever was wrong, all bets are off: Now I can live forever! Sign in to see full entry.

as promised...
The link to photos of yesterday's excursion into the Rockies autumn is to be found in my Adventuring travelblogue, along with a commentary of the day. TAPS, this one's for you: I was thinking of you the whole time! After the mountain drive, we went to a Vintage Market fair down at the Estes Park fairgrounds. It's a new event, only its second time out, and though it occupied two buildings, there was only one booth that actually had a significant amount of vintage clothing. It was more about... Long, long day...
It started early with the drive to the airport to see grandson Vale off to Maryland, then north and west up to Estes Park where my sister Julie drove Charlie and me up into Rocky Mt National Park to enjoy the lovely day and the golden and peachy aspen trees among the dark evergreens. We went up as far as the tundra, then came down again. Tomorrow I will post the best photos. My favorites are the views from the tundra overlook, and a spectacular 6-point elk bull out looking for love. It's said... Sign in to see full entry.

Waking early has its rewards
https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/KVEa89 The sky this morning... It's another auction day wherein Charlie and I will do our best to not spend silly amounts of money on things we only kinda want. The real danger of auctions is in getting caught up in the game, in deciding you have to win no matter the cost! You have to set a limit on an item, how far you are willing to go, and stick to it. And set a margin of maybe $5 or $10 over that, because there has to be a little flexibility after all.... Sign in to see full entry.

Nuff Said...
about last night's 'debate.' Yesterday I picked up two paymant checks from The DressUp Box, representing the first 4 weeks of sales which are all handled by Willowstone so I don't have to be there all the time, and don't have to collect and set aside sales taxes, or keep daily records. Each sale with its item number is recorded on a sheet for me. So... the first month was over $300. Wowser! The rent is $270/month for my little 10x10 booth, so that looks like breaking better than even, all of it... Sign in to see full entry.

slow starting again today
We decided not to make the long trip up to Fort Collins today for the Hobbit Parties at a tavern called Dungeons & Drafts. Charlie needs to be building a cathedral today, and I can't do the stage set-up without hime, and it's a really long trip on the hope of getting some donations in a hat. I can easily be a hobbit here. The cathedral... yes, he is building one in about two days, because John Merrick, around the early 1900s built one. Well, a model of of one, on his dining room table. John... Sign in to see full entry.

And so it grows...
In case you've been following this, The DressUp Box is well and truly open for business. There are still a few touches to add, like the curio for jewelry, and more signs and handouts to let visitors know that all sales benefit The Compass Rose Traveling Theater, and what that is exactly. I've re-posted the sequence of development over there on Flickr so all the photos are side by side. https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/Py15dn Sign in to see full entry.

So... International Talk Like A Pirate Day!
What's a pirate's favorite letter? You might think it would be aRRgh... But no. The pirate's true love is the C. What is the pirate's favorite fast food joint? It's a toss-up between Arrrby's and Long John Silver's. If you dress up like a pirate on this day of days, and visit Krispy Kreme, they'll give you free donuts. We were gonna do that, make a party of it, but no one else could make it, and the nearest KK is 50 miles away. How can there be no Krispy Kreme shop in Colorado Springs?? So... Afters Remarks
We are home from the Northglenn Pirate Fest, a fine time, a smooth trip all the way, but maybe next time we will stay another night rather than drive the ~80 miles back to the Springs exhausted and in the dark. Beautiful venue: EB Rains Park, a gem of green lawns, happy little trees, and a wide pond big enough for a pirate ship and a cardboard/duct tape boat regatta. Perfect weather: not too hot, not too windy, and no precip at all! It would have been a real bugger to deal wi th inclement... Sign in to see full entry.
