Right now... Lucky me!

Live broadcast of Beethoven's Ninth Symphony! With the volume turned way up! There is not a bar of this music that doesn't move and delight me! And the Ninth Symphony was my very first classical concert, back in 1970. Twice in one week, with good seats, because my date loved classical music and had season tickets--then bought two more for this performance. Sign in to see full entry.

How many bubbles is a drink?

Watching Crumpet taking a drink from the water tube... It is a test-tube, basically, with a cork in it. There is a curved glass pipe that extends through a hole in the cork to connect the water supply to the gerbil's eager mouth. The gerbil licks at the opening of the pipe and laps out the water. Every so often, a bubble of air rises through the pipe, as air is exchanged for water. It occurred to me that Crumpet 'pays' for his drink with that bubble. Silly thought maybe... it's that kind of a... Sign in to see full entry.

lilacs and stuff

There are lilacs, white ones, along the fence line between my back yard and Charlie's. They are blooming now as they do every spring, but this is the first spring in several years that I've been here to enjoy them. They have a sweet, light scent, and the flower clusters are not as lush as many I've seen, but there are lots of them! In the two previous years I have also missed the sudden transforming of the maple tree off the west end of the deck from bare branches to misty green to a wall of... Sign in to see full entry.

Menage of many

I hope you and spring are finding each other! It is sunny, working up towards warm with 80s promised for Sunday. But we all know the reliability of such promises. It has become apparent that my gerbils either were mistaken as two females, or are decidedly lesbian. Time will tell. If the former is the case, there will have to be great changes in housing before pups come along: a simple, smaller tank without things that young pups might fall off of. I have been reading up on the breeding of... Sign in to see full entry.

The day is grey...

with drizzle here and there. I still have going out to do. There is stuff I can't tell you out loud yet, and please don't speculate over on Facebook, if you go there, as it is too public, but I can tell you that I am sending off a 3lb box of saltines to my daughter in England as they can't get them there. In fact, I am sending them to her husband who is in Virginia for a few days, and he will lug them through 4 countries before getting home. They are well-packed, so should make the trip intact.... ...and continues...

The weather has turned cooler and greyer and rather windy which could have repercussions on the canopy and tent. Yes, there is a tent to go with the stage, staging area for the actors. Our plan is to lay out the picnic goodies there, and a rack of costuming for anyone who wants to dress up. Today we need to sand down the bottom of one of the doors so it can open and close smoothly over the stage even when it isn't perfectly leveled. I want to drape some garlands around the front curtain pole,... Sign in to see full entry.

new music and stuff...

Remember Susy MaCaulay from North Uist, one of those islands off the west coast of Scotland? She used to be one of the writers in our Blogitsphere. She has a radio show here: http://anradio.scot/listen-live/ It's called Susy Live at 6 and I am going to check it out! The knee is better, though it will be another week and a half before it's seen by an orthopedist. By 'better,' I mean it is more functional with less pain and I am no longer afraid of it suddenly dropping out from under me. Still... Sign in to see full entry.

Alice and Crumpet report

Today was exciting and busy for Alice and Crumpet. They have organized their house into some fine tunnels and levels. Every day or overnight, it can change considerably with rearrangements of bedding opening and closing little chambers and passages. Today, I dropped in a tube with a layer of paper still clinging to it. It stood upright for whole seconds before Crumpet discovered it and explored it into submission. Then she and Alice began to chew, and in 15 minutes, it was gone. Pictures...? Oh,... Sign in to see full entry.

Oddments

Yesterday's road trip (see photos in the Travelblogue) up into the Front Range between Palmer Lake and Woodland Park was very refreshing. I haven't enjoyed such an excursion since moving out here, what with eye problems and the cost of gas vs my income. Then came the snapping-behind-the-knee moment, and so today's adventure is limited to watching David Attenborough's documentaries about the Earth, its environments and life, while keeping the leg up. More experienced folk, hearing of the... Sign in to see full entry.
