We went to a show tonight...

It looked like it was going to be exotic and intense with color and drama. What it was, was loud, relentlessly amplified, aggressive--even assaultive--music in a room no deeper than 4 rows of seats facing about the same width of floor/stage. Such a very small house, amplification rattles the walls and the teeth and comes up through the floor and feet and butt... Yet, when I looked around at the rest of the audience, I saw not a single person moving with the beat, no one joining themselves to the... Sign in to see full entry.

I can see clearly now...

Had an eye exam yesterday and ordered new spectacles. It will be a near thing, whether they come in before I need to leave on the coming road trip. Two of em--Office lenses for clarity within 8 feet of my eyes, and the Driving lenses for distances which will bring both eyes to 20/20, where the right is currently 20/50. And then, the 'clip on' sunglasses. These aren't like the ones on the bridge hinge, that are very nearly as stylish as the ones that go over your whole regular glasses. They are... Caucus Watching

I still vote in Washington State, so attended the Democratic Caucus here in Colorado as an observer only. Some weird rules, they have here! For one, the caucus hours are from 6:30 pm when the doors open--anyone not in the building by 7pm can't particiapate--until 9 pm. So, it is a very limited process, unlike a primary where voters come when they can and vote, and leave. First, it was a bit of a madhouse as participants from maybe 10 precincts signed in, their names being checked on the voting... Sign in to see full entry.

Gloating...

I filled the truck's gas tank today, with my discount from the grocery store. It's a 34 gallon tank, down to just below the quarter full mark. Turns out, that was ~6.5 gallons. So--27.5 gallons... mid-grade... discounted.70/gal... $29. It wasn't all that long ago it would have taken $50 or more to fill the 12 gallon tank on the little car, or over $80 to fill the 22 gallon tank on the old truck. I know these times won't last, nor these gas prices, but... Woohoo! Good time for a road trip, and... Sign in to see full entry.

Waking early...

I woke from a dream of being at the wedding reception of two friends, and being asked what I would be doing at the mic. All their friends were singing or doing other stuff in their honor at the open mic--a nice thing to have at a wedding reception, but one fraught with risk, should that uncle who shows up at every family event--full of dreadful jokes, off-base anecdotes, rants and maybe prat falls--show up and grab the mic. Anyway, I got to thinking, What will I do? I don't sing anymore, not... Sign in to see full entry.

6:30 am...

Another full moon is setting over Pike's Peak... The sky behind moon and mountain is pink shading up to blue, all touched with twilight grey... Alice and Crumpet have been redecorating since I pulled about 5 gallons of litter out of their 10 gallon home, and gave them a couple of new boxes. The boxes are tissue boxes of both the square and long sort. I note they have upended the long one and reduced them both somewhat. Oh...! just now, the sun has come over the eastern horizon, and the glow on... Sign in to see full entry.

After all this time...

Several months ago, I bought a new bed, and it was such an improvement over my old two-futons and the incurable dip in the center set-up. And yet... The new one, a Beautyrest, has a reinforced edge so it doesn't dump you on the floor if you sit on it. But it made the softer center too soft in comparison, so I tried to adapt it, even though I had a warranty that was good until Feb 20th. Adapting didn't work. Thing is, I have this Part of my personality, the Inertia Part, that just doesn't want to... Sign in to see full entry.

Clean Truck!

I picked up the new pickup today... New to me, it's a 2003 Silverado, 2500 which is grander than my old 1500, and has things like extended cab--with back doors! and long-bed which means being able to shift lots more stuff at one time! March 11 we will leave on our way to look at and probably buy the rolling stage. Meanwhile, one of the Little Theater companies in town has invited Charlie to board membership! Not the most prestigious of companies, but good folks, and he will sharpen them up some,... Sign in to see full entry.

New old truck!

I am buying a new old truck, another Chevy Silverado, 3/4 ton extended cab, long-bed pickup that has the /capacity for towing things of great weight. Why so suddenly? Because I want a thing that needs to be towed around. It's a 7x12 flatbed trailer with a traveling stage built onto it. This stage opens out on the side, has a 10 ft extending floor to make the whole stage 7x22, and the doors open out to each side. It comes with all accoutrements including audience benches and a canopy to keep the... Sign in to see full entry.

Quiet and softly grey overhead

Alice and Crumpet are tucked up in their nest, out of sight. Classical music is on, as it usually is, to the pleasure of every living thing in the house, I hope. I leave it on at night to provide a counter to the outdoor noises and the indoor silences that can make it hard to get to sleep. ooo... Alice heard me think her name and is suddenly quite busy... A few months back, I tried out a variety of winter squashes to compare flavors and textures. One, called a Gold Nugget, I think, was very dry... Sign in to see full entry.
