The Compass Rose report

Yesterday we solved the problem of the frozen hitch-jack by replacing it with a shiny new one, and were finally able to park the stage on the lawn beside the house. Backing even a small trailer is no simple thing to those new at it, as the necessary moves and wheel-turnings seem so counter-intuitive. And if you are going to mess about with trailers, it is something you absolutely have to get the knack of! It took us about 30 minutes of maneuvering, going around the block (twice), and at least... I hear a disturbance in the Force...

Strange not-quite-rhythmic thumping--as Charlie beats the carpets that we unloaded from the Stage today. I thought using a broom would be simpler, as well as quieter, but he wants to beat them, so they be beat! Even if the beat is a little irregular. In fact, we unloaded everything, and all the furnishings, fabrics, poles and posts are sitting on the side yard at the moment. Relapse

From warm sunny days to a relapse of winter, and now back to sun and warmth again... I've got doors open to the lovely weather; the green haze in the trees grows stronger daily. The couple of hard freezes over the past couple of weeks did not, glad to say, discourage the budding leaves on the lilacs, either. Congestion has cleared from sinuses and chest, so I feel much better, but after just a little activity, my get up and go, as they say, has got up and went. Maybe it's the lack of morning... Some of you will laugh...

I just did a little detective work--it didn't take much--when I noticed that there have been an awful lot of views of one particular photo over on Flickr. Not one of the recent ones, but one that does have a springtime theme, so I figured... someone is really into spring! Getting to know you...

My step-grandson, is in town, hanging out with Uncle Charlie for his spring break. It's a complicated family, and it's a very good idea for this 17-yr old young man to have a break from it. So, "spring break" is particularly meaningful. There have been times I didn't much like any of the kids in that family. Keeping in touch and up-to-date keeps assumptions and assessments from getting stuck in the past. Well, we haven't had that. So I had some trepidation about this visit, but in fact, it has... Monday morning

Still moving through this cold which is currently tickling my breathing apparatus lower down, while the throat is no longer scratchy and the sinuses have mostly cleared. I take an intense expectorant and cough suppressant, and am preparing a large pot of berry/herbal tea to keep the cough from becoming a thing in itself that will take weeks to clear. home...

All seems well, live things still living, and the flicker still pounding his wee bird brain out on the side of the house... Alice and Crumpet are lively as ever, perhaps they are glad to have me back again to sit by them and give them cardboard tubes and stuff... I brought home a cold, first I have had in ages. Fuguey night...

If you are watching my Travelblogue, you know that yesterday was a bit of a trying day, particularly when we discovered that the reason we seemed to be fighting the brakes for a considerable distance was that one of the stage tires was falling off. By nightfall, though, as described in the Travelblogue, we were really considerably fortunate in our bad luck, my brain settled into a state of fugue and confusion, not made any better by dancing around on Facebook, Blogit, and gmail.
