There was a bright, lovely dawn this morning when I stumbled out of bed, too bumble-headed to know where the camera was last put. I can see it now from where I sit. The day should be pleasant, temps up into the 50s F. After all the whinging I have done lately regarding broken sleep, I made it through last night from 9:30 to 4:30, then went back to sleep for another three hours. So, all in all, definitely feeling on the mend from this head-cold. Yesterday, Mary from Faerie Magazine sent me a... Sign in to see full entry.

too much too soon
Yesterday when I dropped Charlie off at work--he has a badge now that identifies him as "Charles Redding Facilities Manager"-- I went into our unit there and started organizing the costuming we took there from the DressUp Box at the Willowstone Market. I shifted and carried and shoved and dragged for two hours. That's it, just two hours. Hardly a full day's labor. But after those two hours, I was just exhausted! I still have this upper respiratory infection going on, though I have been feeling... Sign in to see full entry.

"Many's the slip..."
You ever get so excited about something, so full of your bliss that even though you know you're jumping the gun, you jump anyway? The exchange of emails between me and Mary representing the magazine began with some formatting changes including one offered as optional, my choice. I could have just said, "Whatever you like..." but instead, told her why my original formatting choice had been in fact careully thought out and intentional. I explained my reasoning and sent an amended version of the... Sign in to see full entry.

good news, bad news...
First, the bad: my PC had a fit today and I had to wipe everthing except personal files back to factory settings. So much to now re-install... so many passwords to recover or reset... Now, the good! FAERIE MAGAZINE wants to print one of my Middle-earth poems in their upcoming Tolkien tribute issue! Hey, all you in the East, button up and stay warm! I hear you are going to get socked with winter in the next little while. Sign in to see full entry.

Nice start to the New Year
Woke in time to catch the last of the full moon and then the pretty colors of 2018's first sunrise. https://flic.kr/p/221cbEN Sign in to see full entry.

Another end of year farewell and welcome to changes
It is done: we completed the move out from the Willowstone Market this afternoon, and began the restructuring of the inventory, and in fact, of the whole business. It had stopped being fun out there at the market, my enthusiasm flagged with every piece of clothing I had to pick up from the floor because someone couldn't clean up their own mess. I added up the numbers and realized I was paying rent 13 times a year. This made it necessary to pay rent by an odd schedule where monthly just seems... Sign in to see full entry.
the last day
So here we are, at the end of 2017, a year of challenges socially, politically, personally... Unthinkable, unimaginable challenges for some of us, some long overdue, some unbelievable: How could this even happen? This was the year of consequences including really unwelcome surprises: How could they even do that? And here we are on the verge of 2018. I, for one, am hopeful that we will see consequences of last year's consequences. Like the first three STAR WARS movies, the Obama years were A NEW... Sign in to see full entry.

5 AM
Here it is, Saturday again already. Another broken night's sleep, waking half a dozen times for a few sips of water, and bothered by a persistant, uncomfortable dream. I dreamed that I had accepted a role in a Christmas movie set in Tudor times. But the history was casual, far from accurate, and there was nothing in it actually Christmassy at all. There were no miracles nor magic, nothing sentimental... I kept wondering why it was a Christmas movie, what was the point of making it. They had had... Sign in to see full entry.

Along with other Christmas gifts...
I brought home a sore throat and a bit of a fever I think, which frustrated all attempts to sleep last night. Embers walking about on me and petting my face, threatening to lick me didn't help either. Today, after I take Charlie off to work, it is likely to be nap time again. Do you like jigsaw puzzles? Someone gave this one to Charlie for Christmas: https://www.artifactpuzzles.com/products/diego-mazzeo-mechanical-griffin This company, Artifact, makes some amazing puzzles, many with no outside... flying into winter
The flight from Seattle was not terribly long, between 2-3 hours. It was cold in Seattle and the Christmas snow was still on the ground in many places in the early evening. Sunset was over my shoulder for a long time as we flew southeast towards Denver. There was a counterpane of fluffy clouds for a while, then I could discern a snowy landscape below with clusters of lights. There was a first-quarter moon brightening the snow a little. Across the Rockies, approaching the prairies beyond the... Sign in to see full entry.
