Essential Ingredient : The Grain of Salt

A few years ago, there was a popularization of the so-called Hundredth Monkey effect, used as evidence of synergistic, perhaps telepathic learning with suggestions of the existence of community consciousness. I don't argue against those things, but as it happens, I read the particular study that gave rise to the myth back in my old college Anthropology days, and so I'm aware that the story is not what happened. Nor is it, in fact, such great evidence of the psychic connection between monkeys. In... Sign in to see full entry.

"Trust in Allah but tie up your camel..."

Before moving towards other topics, I'd like to make a fairly important point here: Just because someone is not wearing a body, does not mean they are more evolved than those of us who are. It takes a lot of energy, and the ability to manage it, to own and operate a body. Not every bit of conciousness is up to the task. Think back, if necessary, to when you were a restless kid who had the general idea of driving, but could not afford your own car. How did you get around? Public transport? Ask a... OceanD: "Why do they want to help us?"

Because they are us. To paraphrase Emanuelle: We respect you greatly: Many of us have been human and know full well the courage it takes. Why does anyone become a teacher? Why does someone want to spend their entire lives in school, first as a student, then teaching and hanging out with kids? We all know how cranky and obstreporous and resistant to learning some kids can be... Especially those at the junior high/middle school level, which is about where humanity is, I'm thinkin'... Answering Avant-garde: Where do thoughts pop in from?

I believe that thoughts originate from all levels within the mind and also, sometimes, from places outside. Mostly, they surface from the area of our personal 'ocean' of mind that is metaphorically like the light-zone that gets dimmer and darker the deeper we go. There are critters in the darkness that sometimes stir the waters or even make an appearance... And there are bubbles from the bottom, rising and expanding quietly, that burst on the surface... "Ask, and the answer will be given..." I... Sign in to see full entry.

Thinking about feelings... A few thoughts on Emotion

They are part of our human experience. Emotions are one of the ways that our unconscious mind communicates with us. They tell us what we are noticing below the level of our up-front awareness, and that is quite a lot. They can clue us in, if we pay attention, about the condition of our energy-flow, in at least a general way: If I'm feeling down, confused, vague... if my get-up-and-go seems to have got up and went... if I'm just not liking myself much... I know, if I remember to think of it, that... Sign in to see full entry.

"The worker is worth his hire..."

There is the 'whether' question, and then there is the 'how much' question. Just about everyone gets into a tangle over the matter of payment for spiritual services. Some resolve it by adamantly declaring it inappropriate to pay for or be paid for such services. Others devote their lives to the business of reading and healing, and have no trouble charging big bucks for what they do. Those who object on biblical grounds usually point to Jesus tearing up the money-changers tables in the Temple,... Sign in to see full entry.

My Resume

I just wrote this up for someone who wanted to know*, and thought it might be high time I submitted it to you who have been reading this blog... I have been reading actively for the past 35 years, from beginning with Tarot at age 17, to learning about reading auras, pastlives, and spiritual healing at the Washington Psychic Institute, the seminary of The Church of Divine Man, from 1978 until my graduation/ordination in August 1983, putting in about the same hours as I had in earning a BA in... Proof of God's Existence

Down among the earliest posts in this blog I described what God has to be, to be God. My opinion, my conclusions--read the disclaimer in the side-column again, if you like... It's on the first or second page, if you want to go check it out. In very brief, God = Everything + Consciousness. The proof that such an Ultimate Being must exist lies in the fact of Consciousness, and is predicated on the understanding / belief that personal consciousness survives the death of the body. The thing about... Sign in to see full entry.

How things feel is not necessarily how they are. And other unequations

Intelligence isn't necessarily smart. Beauty is not always attractive. Education isn't the same as wisdom. Power-over is not the same as power-within. Superior is not necessarily better. Product is not the same as accomplishment Sign in to see full entry.

People who believe in God-given Free Will don't kill it in their kids.

(reprised from an earlier prose blog) Cut&Pasted from the Headlines! Well, no, just from a comment I left in someone else's post, but upon reflection thought it worth making the same point in a more visible place. This is a topic I have felt strongly about for some time, and it's about time I put some words around my thoughts on the matter. The post I responded to was about the predominance in our society of adolescents who invest heavily in Bible study and Bible groups, as if this is a good... Sign in to see full entry.
