photos from the air: A mountain road for Taps

These photos are from an eastbound flight-- Seattle to Kansas City, on my way to Christmas with my daughter and granddaughter in Maryland. I had a seat on the south side of the plane, so the afternoon light is a bit harsh, compared with the previous shots taken from the north side of my westbound flight, that I posted earlier. These views are quite different, eh? Sign in to see full entry.

I'm going to Singapore!

Yep-- sometime in March, I'm off to visit daughter and son-in-law in their new digs on the other side of the world! I still have to decide how long I want to stay, where I want to go while in the neighborhood, and whether to go east or west to get there. I hope I will be able to keep blogging from there... I will have to pack batteries and get more memory cards... I will miss my cats... Sign in to see full entry.

I don't believe in non-believers:

A Hypothetical Dialogue with a Hypothetical Atheist (inspired by a real one) In fact, whether you believe in anything to call God, or believe that such does not exist, all you have, or I, are beliefs. We can have a whole lot of certainty, but our knowledge is always bordered by ignorance, by all the things we have yet to learn or observe. When it comes down to it, I cannot know there is actually anything that fits my definition of God, and you cannot know that there is nothing that fits your... Sign in to see full entry.

Once again, my view of the Universe...

"They don't say who wrote it, but I'd be willing to bet it was from a channeled being." extracted from Julia's blog today, http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/Quirkyalone1026/...this reminds me, I wanted to say something about sources... The source of our wisdom-- some of us take credit for it, some of us ascribe anything insightful and profound to something or someone outside of ourselves. But I suggest that this notion be considered as inclusive rather than exclusive: an 'and' rather than a... Sign in to see full entry.

Oh dog, Poor dog...

Whacky's post today-- http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/Whacky466073/ stimulates this one... On Sunday, my grandpuppy, Cooper got shoved into a kennel... a cat's kennel, he'll have you know, and taken away and stowed on a plane and rumbled along for hours and hours until some utter strangers whisked him out of the plane and off to a place of poking and prodding, and then whooshed into a place of many kennels full of strange, sad and irritated dogs... And there he sits, and will sit, waiting... Sign in to see full entry.

Souls in evolution: Friendship

Human individuals, growing from infancy to ancientsy, learn and adapt and change and grow... as does the human race, as a societal entity. I am among those who believe it takes lifetimes for a soul to evolve, and that entire life-spans are taken up with learning, perhaps, one little lesson, or taking one small but essential step. Sometimes, we simply like where we are: the playground is full of friends, and the equipment is cool; the weather is good, and the ice-cream truck comes by regularly...... Sign in to see full entry.

Forensic Poetry

I wrote this poem when I was 22, and thought at the time that it was the best I had ever written, the first true personal expression of myself, my own life. It was the first one in what became my particular style of rhythm and rhyme. It was written with a consciousness of anger and hurt of adolescence, but from the other side of that swamp-- though it didn't keep me from going back into those regions for years more. I lost this poem a long time ago-- another story!-- and I have not thought about... Sign in to see full entry.

Perks of going to college: Memorable Professor Stories!

I had a child psych prof who giggled every few minutes, and who never stated the results of her own research without immediately suggesting, "But I might be wrong, of course..." I dropped the class because the giggling was creepy. My husband recalls a Swedish prof who carried to class "a yegg-timer... When the yegg-timer runs out, class will be over..." He had an accent like the Swedish Chef of the Muppets. My dad tells of a prof he had who would find out a couple of years ahead of time what... Sign in to see full entry.

Odysseus stimulates me again...

In his descriptions of experiencing a Buddhist temple, contrasting with a Catholic cathedral, he raises the question-- Why all this fuss? (here, if you'd like to get it in his words, illustrated with photos: http://www.blogit.com/Blogs/Blog.aspx/insightnow/ ) One reason is that the grand architecture and themed decor creates a setting for religion's rituals and litanies, and supports their purpose: to make the whole spiritual experience more accessible to the body/personality. It's the same... Sign in to see full entry.

Mood Indigo... continues...

I've read some more, now, and the topic has mixed flavors... It smacks of the pseudo-scientific and is exactly the kind of notion that attracts New Age and other elitists, and the curiosity and mental energies of those who adore a great explanation, without a necessity of actual truth, not to mention those who take any such idea and tear into it as necessarily absurd and ridiculous, purely fodder for the fatuous... On the other hand, here I am, matching to one degree or another the... Sign in to see full entry.
