Bo is smart, or maybe he is channeling, Whackey?
(hmm--a comma makes a lot of difference sometimes...)

Sannhet, are you implying that we are nuts, through and through?

Ariel, I have to respectfully disagree with the notion that anyone
is non-believer: We all believe something, and we actually can know very little, no matter how profoundly certain our beliefs.
I'm glad you stopped by and commented--I have relatives that are devout atheists, and I have never really chatted with them about what it is they believe, and where they draw the limits of their beliefs. Every time I tried to talk with them, they got a bit evangelical on me, all talk, no listen... No dialogue. They might, in those days, have said the same of me: we were all younger then!
Maybe we can have that conversation I could not have with my relatives.
In the meantime, your comment here has stimulated my next blog entry...

For me, thinking of accessing wisdom is akin to accessing the meat of a pecan inside the shell. As you peel away the shell, it is still a pecan. When the shell has been completely removed and you have nothing but the meat, it is all still a pecan. The shell, though it may be cast aside, is not identified as "no longer a pecan." It is still a pecan, though we may idenitify it as the shell. But if we want the meat of the pecan, we have to remove the shell. I think if we want true wisdom, we have to remove the Self (if only temporarily) to get to the wisdom that is self. But it is still all Self/self.

Ciel--
Samuel said something similar to me, that we are all channels. I guess I am not sure how "high up" it goes until it ceases to become a part of me, or if it does at all. But this was an excellent post with much food for thought!

I'm pretty sure that I speak for most atheists and other non-believers in stating that wisdom is an attribute inherent in human nature ; not derived from some external force or being. It's probably, well, almost certainy, a simple survival mechanism.
Interesting post, thank you
