p2008 asked via email about afterlife in relation to the Astral,

and here is my response which I think might be of general interest. Perhaps other readers will have other comments to add, as well. There are so many variations on the 'where-we-go-after' theme, including the one that we go where we have ourselves decided we will go. No one knows better than ourselves what we deserve, no one is more likely to punish us for the sins we know we are responsible for, regardless of what we admit to in life or in consciousness. In fact, I don't think it is God's... Sign in to see full entry.

smarter than a bag of hammers

It is evident that the majority of people, especially in this country are getting dumber by the school year, by the generation. Not because they are poorly educated, but because they don't care. And vast numbers of dumb do not add up to smart. Have you caught as many minutes as you can bear of the 'reality' show AMERICA'S MOST SMARTEST MODEL? Have you heard the one that flatly, with perfect certainty mentions that elephants are close relatives of dinosaurs? I define 'smart' as capable of... Sign in to see full entry.

Come to the The New Year's Name-dropper's Ball!

Sometimes, its all about who ya know... It's the Seven Degrees of Separation thing: through a string of usually less than 7 people, you are connected to anyone in the world. It's also about the Rubbed Off Glory thing-- knowing someone interesting makes us each a little more interesting... A fallacy, sure, but it has an emotional appeal. Sadly, it is considered a bit uncool to go around dropping names. Except here, right now... Welcome to the Name-dropper's Ball! Who do you know, who have you... Sign in to see full entry.

My eyeballs are spinning...

Spur of the moment afternoon lark... we decided to take in a movie... or two... make it three... but wait, there's more! There's four! We started at 2:50 with ALIENS VS PREDATOR. Gritty, dark and scary, but not the artistry of the first and second Alien movies. The second feature was THE GOLDEN COMPASS. I enjoyed it, liked the scenery and other-worldliness, a sort of dreamy first movie of what is clearly going to be at least two. Then, NATIONAL TREASURE: BOOK OF SECRETS. I heard a critic... Gomedome and bpitter started a most stimulating discussion about

forensic linguistic anthroplogy. They got me thinking, and here's what happened next... Fascinating stuff! Even an oral tradition can be traced back to its deeper roots through the forensic analysis of the language itself: track the language, track the tale. Hierarchy is the way humans tend to think, once they get organized in forms of civilization beyond the tribal. The early pantheons were imagined after the model of human behaviors, based on assumptions made by looking at the dynamics between... Sign in to see full entry.

Seeking The Universal Truth With Santa

Each of us is such a tiny nexus of Light and Matter, here in the very center, each of us, of our own personal Universe! We are constrained by what we are, and though I believe that we can understand quite a lot, we cannot reasonably hope to pin down Universal or Absolute Truth. We cannot expect that our models of Reality are or can be wholly correct or complete. All we can do is be open to possibilities, to not be satisfied with 'truths' based on traditional assumptions or charismatic... Sign in to see full entry.

Nautikos started this...

Part of the base assumption that goes into belief in Judeo/Christian/Islamic religion is that there is only One real God. Therefore, when one hears a voice of revelation, one does not consider that it might be just another disembodied entity with an agenda: if there is only One, this must be it, so, whatever it says, it must be accepted as coming from God. There is also the further assumption that Angels Are Good, or of God, and do not lie to us... Never mind that Lucifer segued from a Prince of... Sign in to see full entry.

Recent events inspired this

It is a pair of related poems, and I hear them in my head read aloud in the voice and cadences of that master raconteur, Garrison Keillor... The earth does what it does and always has-- Storm bellowing, Flood rushing, And the reeds bend; Trees sway and sometimes go roots up; The waters wild sweep the land forgetting former banks erasing dams the diligent beaver built. _____________________ The tempest swoops in off the ocean where it trained, charging like a heavyweight out of his corner, Knocks... Why should we celebrate Christ?

I have a few ideas of my own, feelings and beliefs about Jesus and what he said and did and taught. I know what I celebrate, and why. But nothing in these few weeks whirling from Thanksgiving to New Year's induces me to admire the message of Christianity. If I saw it from afar, from no cultural connection, I would be appalled at what appears to be a massive hypocracy, and I would never look deeper. The credibility of anything associated with it or its proponents would be totally shot. You know... Sign in to see full entry.
