Blue Heron

This was taken at the Dollarville Flood Zone, just west of Newberry. The herons were nesting, meaning one would sit on the nest, and the other would bring back food to the sitting mate. I think this is the male due to his brighter colors. They are big birds and didn't seem to mind us watching him.... Sign in to see full entry.

Who's There?

It was always incredible that I could walk through the forest and see so many creatures that so often would be gone long before you ever even sensed they were around. This appears to be a momma and her yearling twins. Chances are good that she is already carrying a new baby and will soon dump the... Sign in to see full entry.

Ready For Take Off!

This relatively young female (~ four years old) was not used to having us wander below her tree stand, and I caught this shot just as she pushed off. Check it out! Sign in to see full entry.

Run Away! Run Away!

We were traveling down a slippery snowy back road and came across this small herd of deer standing in the middle of the road. They stood still until I opened the door to get this photo. Check it out! Sign in to see full entry.

Kitch-iti-kipi

An unusual look at the egress of Kitch-iti-kipi or "Mirror of Heaven,' the huge spring-fed 'lake' in the UP near Manistique. Most shots you see of this body of water are of the churning bottom of its green waters. This is the channel that leads to the Indian Lake. Check it out! Sign in to see full entry.

Foxy Lady!

I began to see these two foxes in the winter of 2018/19 with Lisa with me. She was incredulous that they weren't afraid of us, but as you can see, they just carried on as if we were never there. Check it out! Sign in to see full entry.

Sunset Snow

An open field, sixteen inches of snow, pines in the distance, and a beautiful sun about to take its nap. Just another winter evening in the Upper Peninsula. Check it out! Sign in to see full entry.

Leave Me Alone!

This young female had found some fish 'offal' or guts but was having a showdown with another eagle. Surprisingly, she held the intruding eagle back, and she was able to eat her prize. Check it out! Sign in to see full entry.

Peregrine Falcon in Flight

The Peregrine falcon is a common bird of prey in most of the US. Many cities have imported them for 'pigeon patrol.' I remember when they first brought them into Grand Rapids, Michigan. I walked into Butterworth Hospital in downtown GR when I heard a distinctive 'thud' noise. One of the falcons had... Sign in to see full entry.

Baby Eagle Feeding Time

This was a hard shot to get. Eagles with young aren't real easy to close to long enough to get a good shot. I think I took over 100 shots, and this is one of the best ones. The adult eagle closest to you is Mama. Daddy is in the background. They took turns feeding the babies. Check it out! Sign in to see full entry.
