Birds, Animal sanctuary, and more churches

I meant to load the photos of York, and discovered a longer queue, from the little blue tits in the front yard feeding station, through our visit to the animal sanctuary (where Marika will be getting in the next few days, a hedgehog to foster), and the pause by a convent church along that road...... The old English oak

Today was a drive towards Southport and West Lancashire to visit an animal sanctuary that was having an open house day. I finally was able to get some trees in my sights. The trees have a wonderful silhouette against the sky this time of year, some still nearly bare-branched, some beginning to leaf... Sign in to see full entry.

Grey and drizzly...

Another rainy day, but hey, it's still England out there, and this is how they pay for the lush greens and gorgeous gardens! We have tentative plans to visit gardens when the sun comes out, and at least one of the "stately homes" in the area. Browseholme (pronounced 'bru-some') Hall is hosting a... Road Trip!

Next Tuesday and Wednesday, Marika and I will drive over the moors of northern Yorkshire to the coastal town of Whitby. Do you remember Whitby? It was where a ship came ashore, crew gone and captain bound to the wheel, the ship that bore several boxes of earth, and Dracula... We will be there during... Sign in to see full entry.

We visited an old churchyard in Great Mitton yesterday afternoon. It was closed up, but the outside of this small medieval church suggests that the inside, with sunlight coming through the stained glass, is quite beautiful. Tuesday at Hollin Hall Farm

I don't often ask folks if I can take their pictures, but this couple I met at the coffee shop, and enjoyed a long chat with, I took the plunge. Marc and Susan, charming local people. If you watched the show ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL, then you will know what I mean when I tell you that they... Sign in to see full entry.

First pictures of England These are the best photos from departure out of Colorado Springs through the first day, to sunset over the Ribble Valley. That was yesterday now... soon to be day before yesterday, and by tomorrow I'll have today's shots up. Sign in to see full entry.

Beautiful day in Lancashire!

Arriving early on Sunday morning, the drive from Manchester to Whalley (pronounced like Woolley ) was pleasant and fairly quick. The house is at the top of a hill, looking westward across the Ribble River Valley. From here you can see the many small village centers, most of them with at least one... Sign in to see full entry.

From Atlanta

Sitting in the Atlanta airport, 8 hour layover reduced to 7 after the flight from CoSprings was delayed... Found my way, one question at a time, to the proper concourse, the stated gate, and went to check in at the general info counter for Virgin America... One person there dealing with all comers,...
