Leighton Moss walk

That's a wetlands preserve out near Morecambe Bay on the west coast of Cumbria. We had a 2-mile stroll through the reed-beds, with a couple of sit-downs at the windows of a couple of the hides in place for observers to watch the birds without intruding. Enjoy the walk!... Sunday Morning in Oxford...

and some early-morning drive shots of a lovely dawn... uploading even now! Kabu, you will no doubt appreciate the relative lack of traffic so early on a Sunday morning! https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/1N5750 Sign in to see full entry.

The Tolkien Trail

Photos are up for part of the walk: flickr was cranky and I will be (hopefully) adding the ones it rejected later. Meanwhile, enjoy the latter part of the section we walked. For a map of the trail, you can look here: http://www.visitlancashire.com/dbimgs/Tolkien_Trail.pdf We walked from the Cromwell... Sign in to see full entry.

Walking in The Shire

It is easy to feel very hobbity, ambling down the lanes near the house. Woods and fields, flowers and beasties... https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/W6X110 Sign in to see full entry.

https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/g739uj This one, for all the flower-lovers and gardeners, and would-be gardeners... And especially for Kabu, at least one particular painted rock... Sign in to see full entry.

Dovestones

It's a reservoir in the northern reaches of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire. It nestles between Alphin Hill and Dovestone Edge, between meadows and dark, shady pine forest--pictures are waiting... https://www.flickr.com/gp/therovingeye/267SB4 Sign in to see full entry.

Getting caught up...

More photos are up on flickr, though not yet the ones for the two just-previous posts in this blog. These are the ruins of Sawley Abbey and some more lanes and trees. If I could take every shot I want, and show you all the ones I've missed, there would still be wonderful things for you to see for... Sign in to see full entry.

Ambleside and the Drunken Duck

Today we drove over to the Lake District in Cumbria. We didn't go hiking, the weather was threatening rain--though it never came--so we visited the cottage of Beatrix Potter (photos only in the gardens, but what gardens!) then had lunch at a pub called The Drunken Duck where I ate the best corned... Along the Withywindle

We visited the Brockholes (brockles) Nature Reserve near Preston, if you want to find it on a map. It's right up against a portion of the Ribble Way, the footpath that follows the River Ribble for quite a long way. TAPS will love the trails and arches... For our Kabu, there are Denizens among the... Sign in to see full entry.

In the Peaks District

We walked around lakes today, and among trees, through hummocky boggy places and under grey stone cliffs: Dove Stones Reservoir in the Peaks District National Park. There will be pictures, but after that five mile walk, I am going to soak in a hot bath, and go to bed. Sign in to see full entry.
