Angels Among Us

Stories of enigmatic helpers appearing at precisely the right moment are rife in our culture. The problem we have accepting that these might be angels are due to our preconception about how they should appear. I, myself, experienced a curious intervention that undoubtedly saved my life. I was... Sign in to see full entry.

Chimney Fires and Firewood

Pine is the most likely culprit when a chimney catches fire. Pine wood is full of resins and tars, which gum up a chimney and then ignite when heated. I've heard stories of chimneys looking like jet engines in full afterburner, shooting flames many feet into the night sky. Yet, left out in the open... Sign in to see full entry.

If You Really Knew Me...

Today's Oprah show inspired me to write a post here, and challenge anyone who reads this to reveal something about himself or herself that would otherwise be unknown. Blogging is truly a shadow-world, where we can choose to be whomever we want. Yet, one things is for sure: we are all human and... Sign in to see full entry.

A Few Fire Facts

Fire has always fascinated me. When I went through fire training, I learned some invaluable information about fire and how to put it out. Then I sold firewood and learned even more, from the burning end. Fire is a plasma; it's a living entity. It is a melding of three forces: heat, fuel, and oxygen.... Sign in to see full entry.

A Milieu of Angst

Have you noticed that every influence we experience from society is to prevent some unwanted effect? Young women are starving and mutilating themselves to conform to an impossible ideal. 98% of women interviewed stated flatly that they did not feel beautiful. Strangely enough, we have become a... Mountain of Iridescence

It stands stolid, majestic, and dispassionate most days. Sometimes, it is cloaked in fog, and other times it is bleached through haze. On clear days, a flock of crows circle its summit. On this particular day, it stood emblazoned against an azure sky lightly swept with mares' tails. Like a patchwork... Sign in to see full entry.

Premonitory Dream

Winter is fast approaching. I sell firewood, and so I have plenty to burn. We have a stove downstairs, and a fireplace upstairs. Noah has just started to really roam about the house, and cannot get into the kitchen. I told my wife the other day that maybe we should not burn a fire in the fireplace... What Are You!

Issac and I shared a fascination with spirits and hauntings. He loved to weave tales of his adventures, and I shared my own. We would congregate when there was work to be done, and spend several minutes discussing new and frightful experiences. One day I was minding my own business and he came up to... Let's Tell a Ghost Story. Me First....

I became an unlikely confidant one evening during paramedic study time. I was babbling about the story behind The Exorcist, when the girl sitting opposite of me became very quiet. I could tell she had a whopper of a tale for me. Did she ever. Her name was Sonya. She waited until the other two left... Sign in to see full entry.

A Bloodlust Comes Nigh

The fall becomes a dangerous time to be in the 'bush.' People who otherwise sit in front of televisions and avoid nature become mesmerized with the thought of killing and take to the woods in droves. I've heard all the excuses they use for their butchery. It's a lie. It's socially unacceptable to... Sign in to see full entry.
