Living near mountains lulls one to sleep to their magic.

The people who are rushing about- the important ones. I go to homes in the country and the people who are quiet and humble appreciate nature the most. I guess that's just how it is.

Your words are true. I remember what Dr. Phil often says: The most influential person in a child's life is the same sex parent.

What a great view you must have.
I wonder how many out there do not appreciate the view.

Blanche said it all, Avant Garde! I once had to write a
2000 word essay on her quote! Well done post I could close my eyes and see your mountain. It was great! That's good writing when someone really sees the picture you paint with words! God bless, faholo

If only respect could be taught that easily, Avant, I think its root is

humility; until I know what I don't know, it's easy to be arrogant about a little knowledge, which, in the scheme of things, means less than nothing.  Maintaining one's integrity, without insulting another's is taught by example, by a parent or learned along the way, I suppose.

"The beginning of wisdom is the fear of God".  (and I don't mean 'terror", but awe.)

There are a lot of things we should be teaching in school, which are blatantly disregarded. One of them is basic human respect.

If only "value" and "quality of life" weren't synonymous with "price".
Avant. I've heard a good way of summing it up, "He knows the price of everything and the value of nothing".   That's something they don't teach you in school.

Well said. This speaks volumes of our wastefulness with earth's resources.

Avant, I've observed firsthand that what is given too freely has no value.

It is sad that people have become so dependent on things that are supposed to make life easier. The reward is in the striving, and the work makes the achievements sweet. This is a lesson that is lost to modern society.

Only to sensitive noble souls is nobility of Nature revealed, as it was to Wordsworth:

One impulse from a vernal wood

Teaches more of man

Of moral evil and of good

Than all the sages can.

Beautiful imagery, Avant-Garde, a word-picture that allows the imagination

to paint the colors, in my minds' eye.  I have no idea what sourwoods look like, I think they must be indigenous to your area, but if they're a maple, I get the picture.

Imagination is a powerful thing. The camera will never replace it.
