Holdiays in the sun

Of course there is the most obviose flaw in the Richard Branson idea, what do you do once you get there? As pointed out in the last coment, there is nothing to do there, other than come back again! Now the barrow load of money he wants for this trip, would have to deliver a lot more for me. I would at least want to see a Klingon Bird of Prey or the Soup Dragon! However Mr Branson can only get you there and back. Hopefuly. Until you can play tennis on Mars, or sip a martin whilst watching the sun... Sign in to see full entry.

Virgin space

Good luck to Richard Branson with his tourists to space idea. Can't see it working really, as it is so expensive, and you might run out of millionares after a while. But whilst there is still a good crop you might as well take their money off them. Nothing much will happen in space, until you can send them to another planet, or body. The Moon; Mars, anything like that. But even NASA cannot manage that up till now. What we need is a breakthrough! Wornhole exploiting machines, that can warp space.... Sign in to see full entry.

Prediction

Being a big fan of Asimov, I was wondering what ever happened to his idea about the Foundation being able to predict the future? Computer now are so powerful, they can run economic models to run the stock market, the way they want it. So how far are they in predicting the whole future? In my opinion, not far. Stairway to Heaven

Sspace elevators! Witchflower got me thinking about something, and that's what is the cheapest and safest way into space? A rail link strait up. There was Russian scientist, whoes name escapes me now, that first put forward the idea. Of course Arthur C Clarke brought it to it's logical conclusion with his science fiction works. Can't remember the name of the first one, set in Shi Lanka. But the latter 2001 books has mankind living in huge towers that stretch to the edge of space. This would... Sign in to see full entry.

Superman

With the death of Chriss Reaves, I can't help thinking how this stem cell research thing will pan out. Vivisection is a big issue here, and I can see how the multi nationals are working it. If they close down in the Uk, Europe or the US where will they go? China and Africa would not only welcome these companies but present them with standards of ethics which would scare Mary Shelley. Here they could experiment on human being fare beyond the wildest dreams of Dr Menglar. There would be no... Sign in to see full entry.

Rowing to the Moon

The Independant, has an article about a relative of Cromwell's that thought you could launch a ship and row to the Moon! Interesting thing is, that it took just a few years, 1660, to debunk his ideas. So they came up with some real science to prove him wrong, in such a short space of time. Other thing is, his ideas are no crazier then, than quantum science now. How long before someone proposses we sail to another planet through a worm hole? Barmy, but we have the incentive to do it. Mars Society

I see the Mrs society are meeting in Milton Keynes this week. the topic: living on Mars. Interesting to see by the Vox pops on the local news, that few people are in favoure of it. Hard to justify the whole thing when people are blitz with taxes. Not that they are a weigh. spread out in the full view of time, we are better off and richer. But only on paper. Why does it feel as if the whole would if caving in and the little men are taking over? What we need is a vision. A vision of a race that... Sign in to see full entry.

Imperial Rome goes Nuclear!

Thanks everyone for bothering to look at my ramplings. These things were for my own head, never thought anyone else would look. Peter Ustinov used to say that the reason America used to make such good films about Imperial rome, was because they were so much like them. In my opinion, the whole Gulf war(1 and 2) is a test of the military. Just to see if the dam thing works. They spend all this money and still have to wonder if they can still get it up. So they invent a war and go after any target.... Sign in to see full entry.

War, what is it good for?

So finaly they have told the truth, there were no weapons there! Funny thing is, I think there was. Remember going to the Berrick museum and seeing the Plessy radios from the first Gulf war. So they were in there selling him stuff. So where did it all go? I think the Iraqes stole the nukes and took them out the country to sell on the black market. The CIA would have been proud of them. After all, they put the dam things there in the first place. Sadam was their boy and played the part to the... Sign in to see full entry.

House and Home

The landlords are finally doing something to the house today. The last time it has any real work was 1969. So you can imagin I'm a little synical about all this. they did put our rent up, but we are not as worried about this as we were. The Novel The book is going better than I hoped. 15,000 words and the plot is coming on. I'm now at the enviable stage when I can get on with the story. They have won the money, escaped the dead end job and about to embark on a life of fun-fun-fun! Of course I... Sign in to see full entry.
