Healing

I've danced around the subject of healing quite a bit since I started this blog a while ago. I believe strongly that it is possible for those of us who have been abused - whether emotionally or physically - to heal. Although I have to admit that I've done a remarkable job of healing with just... Sign in to see full entry.

2/18/2003 Writing Prompt Challenge: Erection

Whim really came up with a goodie today. (I'd recommend reading her prompt for today, by the way - it's creative and humorous.) As is customary, everything from the title of the prompt (in boldface) on down is part of the prompt. Here goes: Healing from domestic violence The act of healing -... Sign in to see full entry.

Accountability

In this field, as in almost no other, accountability is a big issue for me. It has become fashionable to say that "it takes a village to raise a child." What this phrase really means is that children need an extended group of caretakers helping him or her to grow up. This extended network allows... Sign in to see full entry.

Free to define ourselves for a change

On Beliefnet, a site devoted to the general discussion of every spiritual practice known to humankind (including the practice of atheism), I was reading an article which cuts to the heart of my own journey as a survivor of verbal and emotional abuse. In this article, the author, Mariah Burton... Sign in to see full entry.

Another perspective

I found this site over the weekend, and wondered what other people really though of the concept of men being battered. I know what I think as I type this entry: I'm ambivalent. As a bipolar patient, I'm aware that I have the propensity for violence. In fact, extreme irritability (read: irrational,... Sign in to see full entry.

2/17/2003 Writing Prompt Challenge: The National Enquirer

This one is difficult to work in, but not impossible. After all, the Enquirer IS a tabloid, and would, therefore, sensationalize celebrity cases of domestic violence. As is my custom, everything from the title (in boldface) on down is a part of the writing prompt challenge. Inquiring Minds Want To... Sign in to see full entry.

Roots

I was reading a website on abuse this morning, specifically looking for material to use in this blog, and I found something I thought highly relevant. Granted, what I was looking at had to do with men, not women, but I really feel as if the information applies to me as well. Growing up, for a... Sign in to see full entry.

Just a small thought in the few minutes I have right now

This is going to be a very small post - just a bit of food for thought at Sunday brunch time. How can we influence popular culture? What can we do to assure that the behavior pattern called abuse shall become marginalized? I'm thinking here of stuff like the popular song Birmingham, sung by Amanda... Sign in to see full entry.

2/16/2003 Writing Prompt Challenge: Darwinism

Not every victim of abuse can fit Darwinism into the topic of battering and abuse, but I can, because my former partner is an extreme social Darwinist. Everything beneath this sentence is a part of the Writing Prompt Challenge: Social Darwinism You might wish to read this website for an example of... Sign in to see full entry.

What will we do? What WILL we do?

This post takes its inspiration from an old American Express ad. The typical setup would be that someone has lost massive amounts of cash, generally while visiting a foriegn country. Because cash cannot be easily replaced, if at all, Karl Malden recites the line "What will you do? What will you do?"... Sign in to see full entry.

About this Blog
The name of the post is derived from a Francis Schaeffer book, and intended to rebut something I'd seen on the Internet. The blog itself is about what I've learned about relationships from the ones I've had, and the ones I've observed. It will not be pleasant to read, and might wander off-topic occasionally, but is intended to be a long-term blog reading like a public journal.
