Just a link before I go

I just wanted to post this link before I left to go pay the rent for March. It's from my former partner, and I feel strongly that it shows the mentality of an abuser to perfection. Just read it and weep, get scared, whatever - and keep in mind that he might just want you to be afraid of him. The... Sign in to see full entry.

Book review: Sybil

Sybil has become the archetypal multiple-personality biography. Released in the early 1970s, it rapidly achieved enduring best-seller status due to its drama. Sybil Isabel Dorsett is the pseudonym chosen for the subject of the book, whose real name is Shirley Mason. According to Sybil, Mason came to... Sign in to see full entry.

There's a big difference...

I don't know about anyone else, but I can remember times when I was younger, when adults would joke around about something being someone else's fault. It was pretty clear to everyone - the jokester included - that the incident in question was genuinely not the fault of the butt of the joke. That's... Sign in to see full entry.

Read Helen Bush if it's the last thing you do

In recent days, there has been much good writing - painful to read but good nonetheless - about domestic violence on The Blogging Network. I'm glad to see that you all feel emboldened to write about this topic. Just today, a new blog popped up - Helen Bush. The post I read today described a very... Sign in to see full entry.

Book review: The Flock

Since this blog has been moved to the Health category, I feel much more free to post things such as reviews of books on abuse-related topics. The Flock, written by Joan Frances Casey and Lynn Wilson, is one such book. The Flock is Joan Frances Casey's autobiography, interspersed with case notes and... Sign in to see full entry.

3.3.2003 Writing prompt: Darts

I really had to think about this one for a while, until I remembered seeing something on my former partner's website (or maybe it was on something else he'd written) about darts. As usual, everything from the boldface title on down is the writing prompt entry. Kill the wabbit! Can you imagine three... Sign in to see full entry.

3/2/2003 Writing Prompt: Bowl

Another easy one to work in - "bowl." As usual, everything from the title in boldface on down is part of the prompt. Breakfast Joan was cleaning up after breakfast when he came in with another bowl. As she stood at the sink, cleaning dirty cups and toast plates, he surprised her by placing the bowl... Sign in to see full entry.

3/1/2003 Writing Prompt: Why?

Jemmie came up with a good one today - one designed to be flexible. It fits perfectly with battering and emotional abuse. As usual, anything from the title on down is to be considered a part of the writing prompt. Why? Why do you have that bruise on your face, Mommy? Why does it look like a finger?... Returning to an earlier question: What will we do?

I wanted to return to an earlier question, because it's still frankly relevant. What do we do as members of the human race about those who are being battered? Emotionally abused? This is something we ignore only at our peril. There are so many things to consider at this point. One thing is that it's... Sign in to see full entry.

Beyond redemption? It depends

A lot of people put spousal abusers right up there with child molesters - people beyond all hope of redemption. As for me, I find that it depends. I hold what might best be termed a theoretical position: where there's life, there's hope. I feel strongly that if a man is still alive, there is the... Sign in to see full entry.

About this Blog
The name of the post is derived from a Francis Schaeffer book, and intended to rebut something I'd seen on the Internet. The blog itself is about what I've learned about relationships from the ones I've had, and the ones I've observed. It will not be pleasant to read, and might wander off-topic occasionally, but is intended to be a long-term blog reading like a public journal.
