The most frightening thing of all

Yesterday, I started a series of posts on stalking. It's a topic I plan on returning to in the future (along with the topic of the way kids are affected by domestic-partner abuse), but I wanted to write about a form of stalking I am familiar with through personal experience. In this post, I get to... Sign in to see full entry.

2/15/2003 Writing Prompt Challenge: Lying

Lying is a significant problem in homes with an abuser at the helm. Either the abuser punishes the victim for alleged lies, or the abuser feels free to lie to the victim at will, or some combination of the two will happen. Everything under the title is my entry in the Writing Prompt Challenge... Sign in to see full entry.

Cyberstalking

Cyberstalking can be described more by its practical effects than by a dictionary definition. It is disturbingly easy to develop alternate online identities. I have two of them myself - Gustavo Enriquez and Joe Shmoe (yes, that is a variation of one of my AOL screen names). Because there is no... Sign in to see full entry.

The many faces of stalking

Today, I wish to turn my exclusive attention to stalking. Most of the stalkers I've heard of have been those who have engaged in domestic violence, for which their partners have dumped them. That's why I feel stalking is an appropriate topic for this blog. Right off the bat, though, I have to state... Sign in to see full entry.

Valentine's Day writing prompt challenge entry

Today's writing prompt challenge also fits well into the topic of domestic violence - better, in fact, than yesterday's. Everything from the title on down is my official entry into the challenge. Here goes: Blood drops on the carpet Aunt Martha found the blood drops on the carpet, precisely where... Sign in to see full entry.

Of interest to those who have been victims

I interrupt my continuing narrative to announce the following event, gleaned from an email I got in my inbox today: "Last, today is not just Valentine’s day, it’s V-day!! V-Day is a global movement to stop violence against women and girls. V-Day promotes creative events to increase awareness, raise... Sign in to see full entry.

2/13/2003 writing challenge - 150 words on "my blog is gone!"

In an overt desire to keep my blog front and center in people's consciousness - and expose the issue of domestic violence and emotional/verbal/nonphysical abuse to as many people as possible - I have chosen to participate in today's Writing Prompt Challenge presented by Whim. Her challenge: to write... Sign in to see full entry.

Finances and domestic violence

Finances are a touchy topic in the home of a batterer. Many of you might have grown up in homes in which the man controlled the money on a practical level. In fact, it has only been within my lifetime that we women could even get credit of any kind in our own names; the women in my husband's family... Sign in to see full entry.

Kids and domestic violence

As I share the information in this post, I would like to remind readers that the things I post under the "Kids and domestic violence" heading are merely assertions; I have yet to do substantive research into the field. I got to thinking about this connection when someone left a comment on one of my... Sign in to see full entry.

Animals and humans

One might fairly wonder how the topic of animals in general, and their relationship to humans in particular, might relate to domestic violence. The short course is that animal abuse is so closely linked with domestic violence (in the minds of experts, at least) that animal abusers are seemingly... Sign in to see full entry.

About this Blog
The name of the post is derived from a Francis Schaeffer book, and intended to rebut something I'd seen on the Internet. The blog itself is about what I've learned about relationships from the ones I've had, and the ones I've observed. It will not be pleasant to read, and might wander off-topic occasionally, but is intended to be a long-term blog reading like a public journal.
