We are as the flute, and the music in us is from thee; we are as the mountain and the echo in us is from thee. We are as pieces of chess engaged in victory and defeat: our victory and defeat is from thee, O thou whose qualities are comely! Who are we, O Thou soul of our souls, that we should remain in being beside thee? We and our existences are really non-existence; thou art the absolute Being which manifests the perishable. We all are lions, but lions on a banner: because of the wind they are... Sign in to see full entry.

Without the Eyes ....Rumi

Without the eyes... Without the eyes - two clouds - the lightning of the heart: The fire of God's threat, how could it be allayed? How would the herbage grow of union, sweet to taste? How would the fountains all gush forth with water pure? How would the rosebed tell its secret to the meadow? How would the violet make contracts with jasmine? How would the plane tree lift its hands in prayer, say? How would the trees' heads toss free in the air of Love? How would the blossoms shake their sleeves... Sign in to see full entry.

Don't go anywhere without me - Rumi

In The Arc Of Your Mallet Don't go anywhere without me. Let nothing happen in the sky apart from me, or on the ground, in this world or that world, without my being in its happening. Vision, see nothing I don't see. Language, say nothing. The way the night knows itself with the moon, be that with me. Be the rose nearest to the thorn that I am. I want to feel myself in you when you taste food, in the arc of your mallet when you work, when you visit friends, when you go up on the roof by yourself... Sign in to see full entry.

Rumi - I have been tricked by flying too close

I have been tricked by flying too close to what I thought I loved. Now the candleflame is out, the wine spilled, and the lovers have withdrawn somewhere beyond my squinting. The amount I thought I'd won, I've lost. My prayers becomes bitter and all about blindness. How wonderful it was to be for a while with those who surrender. Others only turn their faces on way, then another, like pigeon in flight. I have known pigeons who fly in a nowhere, and birds that eat grainlessness, and tailor who sew... A Lifetime without Love: Rumi

A lifetime without Love is of no account Love is the Water of Life Drink it down with heart and soul! - Rumi Divan-i-Shams 11909 A Sufi Drinking Song Drink the wine down, Tip the glass. Take this breath like it's your last. We're a caravan, you see, Moving toward our destiny. You must find the eyes to see Drink with the Beloved. Chorus: Oh, la illaha il Allah (There is nothing but the One GOD) La illaha il Allah (repeat) Look to the East, Look to the West, Drink with the Beloved. You can't... Sign in to see full entry.

Rumi - Let them sleep

Ode 314 Those who don't feel this Love pulling them like a river, those who don't drink dawn like a cup of spring water or take in sunset like supper, those who don't want to change, let them sleep. This Love is beyond the study of theology, that old trickery and hypocrisy. I you want to improve your mind that way, sleep on. I've given up on my brain. I've torn the cloth to shreds and thrown it away. If you're not completely naked, wrap your beautiful robe of words around you, and sleep. - Rumi... Sign in to see full entry.

Rumi: THE PROGRESS OF MAN

THE PROGRESS OF MAN First he appeared in the realm inanimate; Thence came into the world of plants and lived The plant-life many a year, nor called to mind What he had been; then took the onward way To animal existence, and once more Remembers naught of what life vegetive, Save when he feels himself moved with desire Towards it in the season of sweet flowers, As babes that seek the breast and know not why. Again the wise Creator whom thou knowest Uplifted him from animality To Man's estate; and... Sign in to see full entry.

Lovers O lovers, lovers it is time to set out from the world. I hear a drum in my soul's ear coming from the depths of the stars. Our camel driver is at work; the caravan is being readied. He asks that we forgive him for the disturbance he has caused us, He asks why we travelers are asleep. Everywhere the murmur of departure; the stars, like candles thrust at us from behind blue veils, and as if to make the invisible plain, a wondrous people have come forth. The Divani Shamsi Tabriz, XXXVI This... Sign in to see full entry.

Rumi: Get rid of yourself

If you could get rid of yourself just once, The secret of secrets Would open to you. The face of the unknown, Hidden beyond the universe Would appear on the Mirror of your perception. ~Rumi Die Before You Die Who is this aliveness that i am? Could it be, the Blessed Holy One? What shall be left When I die? Let me die before i die In the Great Silence. Let me surrender now, Like moth to flame, To the divine Light. Burn all traces of this littleness away! Oh Christ, Nabi, Rasoul of God, Ravish me.... Sign in to see full entry.

Rumi: Close the Language-Door

Close the Language-Door There is some kiss we want with our whole lives, the touch of Spirit on the body. Seawater begs the pearl to break its shell. And the lily, how passionately it needs some wild Darling! At night, I open the window and ask the moon to come and press its face against mine. Breathe into me. Close the language-door, and open the love-window The moon won't use the door, only the window. ~From: "Like This" Versions by Coleman Barks Sign in to see full entry.

Rumi: Come, Come, Whoever You Are

Come, come, whoever you are. Wonderer, worshipper, lover of leaving. It doesn't matter. Ours is not a caravan of despair. Come, even if you have broken your vow a thousand times Come, yet again, come, come. - Rumi Join Us Do you really believe That it is not the falling down That counts, But the times of rising up? Will you join our joyous salvation club? We have committed to keep on waking up. We see the Christ in every being, The Bodhisattva who wills never to give us up. Stop looking at the... Rumi: A Star without a name

A Star Without a Name When a baby is taken from the wet nurse, it easily forgets her and starts eating solid food. Seeds feed awhile on ground, then lift up into the sun. So you should taste the filtered light and work your way toward wisdom with no personal covering. That's how you came here, like a star without a name. Move across the night sky with those anonymous lights. - Rumi (Mathnawi III, 1284-1288) "Say I am You" Coleman Barks Maypop, 1994 Stop Thinking You Are Someone Stop thinking you... Ai mash’ala-aawardah delraa besahar bordah Jaan raa berasaan dar del delraa masataan tanhaa O, bearer of the torch, ravisher of my heart until the early morning, Lead my soul to my heart, do not take my heart alone! - Rumi Give me the courage to leap From the roof of this tower I have built. The tower of myself has no foundation, Built on the sands of self-full illusion. This suicide is Your fault, You have ravished my soul. I cannot go on Asking, "Is this all there is?" You have brought me to... Sign in to see full entry.

Rumi Call Us to Life

How long will you move backward? Come forward; Do not stray in unbelief, Come dancing to religion. Look, the elixer is hidden in the poison, Come to the poison and come, Return to the root of the root of your own self. You may think that you are earthly beings But you have been kneaded from the substance of certaintly. You are the guardians of God's Light, So come, return to the root of the root of your own self. Once you have tied yourself to selflessness, You will be delivered from selfhood... Sign in to see full entry.

Hear This Golden Heart

THE SPIRIT OF THE SAINTS There is a Water that flows down from Heaven To cleanse the world of sin by grace Divine. At last, its whole stock spent, its virtue gone. Dark with pollution not its own, it speeds Back to the Fountain of all purities; Whence, freshly bathed, earthward it sweeps again, Trailing a robe of glory bright and pure. This Water is the Spirit of the Saints, Which ever sheds, until itself is beggared, God's balm on the sick soul; and then returns To Him who made the purest light... Sign in to see full entry.
