Grand Opening: Main Street Boutique at the Center...

Jackie's hard work redecorating the Center's gift shop has paid off. A delegation from the Chamber of Commerce came to hold a ribbon cutting ceremony, there were speeches, the cheerful chicadees took photos. Shoppers lined up to check out the new stuff on shelves and hangers.... Some people who came... Sign in to see full entry.

Keep your eye on the sky

I have to say I love Neil DeGrasse Tyson - the astrophysicist who makes science so much fun you just have to follow wherever he leads. He's renewed the old Carl Sagan TV series on the cosmos, dropping in bits of the latest theory on the meaning of everything. And he's not lecturing us from a dry... Sign in to see full entry.

Gorgeous Sunrise Triggers Memory...

I woke up late - it was after six, and by the time I got to the kitchen to make coffee and count out my pills there was a faint red-orange sunrise in progress. Just enough painted-on-the-sky clouds to catch the light. As I fiddled around it brightened and deepened to that intense momentary glow that... Sign in to see full entry.

Kaitlin spills the beans.

My grandson Joe Jr. is a Marine Sgt. stationed at 29 Palms, CA - a desert post "40 miles from anywhere." He's following the college basketball playoffs known as "March Madness," a big fan of certain teams, which apparently are now out of the competition. According to this morning's post, his... Non-volunteer Visit to The Center...

These days Mable only comes to The Center on Fridays. It seems Eden Village, the active living center where she lives, has its own Bingo and activities going on Tuesdays, so she hangs out with the peeps at Eden. Mable's the 99-year-old who'd been the Front Desk Maven at the Main Street Center for 25... Sign in to see full entry.

Shades of The Great Gildersleeve

You children who grew up in the TV - Internet era never got to enjoy Radio's situation comedies. There was a show in the '40s - "The Great Gildersleeve." It's lead character was (if I remember correctly) the head of the water department in a small town government. It was a comedy of errors,... Sign in to see full entry.

Writers Without Borders

We met last evening, 5:30 to 8:00. Chris was the first one there after I picked up my coffee at the Joe Muggs counter. I told her about this book I found at the Carnegie's shop at the Library, and autographed copy written by her professor. I'd bought it for her, thinking she'd like to have it. She... I am very healthy.

Sally's husband died a month or so before she started coming to The Center last fall. She said he'd gone quickly once he got the diagnosis, apparently the new test equipment gives the doc a better idea about what's going on. She happened to come into the Main Street Center to see what's what on the... Sign in to see full entry.

Fantasy, Fact and Prophecy

Fact: It's been a helluva winter. Here not so much as some places, but with miserable cold enough to restrict the old guard to quarters, and a month-long bout of cabin fever. It's been inconvenient, sometimes dangerous on the roads, and there's been many a backache caused by shoveling snow. In other... Sign in to see full entry.

Peanut sauce...

The weatherman promises snow today. Not enough to impact the commute, he says. Well, since my commute is from the kitchen to the front room where my office is, it would take a heckuva storm to impact that. I'm in my usual good Monday mood today, thankful to have the luxury of time to spend on... Sign in to see full entry.
