Update: the next door neighbor

Well, two squirrels later, my weary neighbor needed a break, so he left the cage, (bait still inside) on end, with the trip mechanism not set. Not two hours later another and perhaps the last of the neighborhood squirrels came by, nosed around the cage, and for a minute or so I thought it was going... Sign in to see full entry.

The abominable neighbour

e pulled the cage out of the recycling barrel, dumped the waterlogged remains of the possum onto the grass. Pulled on a pair of heavy duty work gloves, brought out a couple of plastic bags with store logos, picked up the dead possum by its long, skinny tail and dropped it in one, tied it shut, then... Possum: the final solution

I watched during the day as Ms. Possum resigned herself to being in the cage, curling up into a ball to sleep after exhausting herself trying to get out. Gary came out on his sun porch now and then to keep an eye on her - moved the cage out of direct sun into the shade of a tree as the day wore on.... Sign in to see full entry.

My neighbor has a problem...

Gary has slowed down a lot over the winter. Retired carpenter, always needs to be busy, got a riding mower so he could keep his yard neat, makes a garden every spring, etc. Couple days ago he told me his garden didn't do much last year, not enough to attract the squirrels even. Tomatoes bloomed but... Sign in to see full entry.

Another bit from "Disco Ball"

CHAPTER 3: HERB LOVES LOUISE Herb Jensen first set eyes on Louise Meyers one windy fall day in 1966 as he crossed the quad on campus. She was walking a few yards ahead when her skirt blew over her head, revealing rosy lace panties and long lovely dancer’s legs. As she turned and fought to straighten... Sign in to see full entry.

My Disco Ball is Broken

That was the title of the novel from which the previous couple of posts were extracted. The story was a NaNoWriMo entry that I had prepared an outline for. Also created a cast of characters. The idea came from a photo that I copied from some place on the web - a typical 1960s-1970s studio portrait... Sign in to see full entry.

Sibling Rivalry - conclusion

Habbie went inside. Maybe his mom had some fresh cookies. He had homework, but he wasn’t in the mood. He flopped down on the couch to see what his little brothers were watching: Wiley Coyote and Roadrunner. He could get into that. They shifted uneasily, intensely aware that they were within reach of... Sign in to see full entry.

Remember these characters?

CHAPTER 10: SIBLING RIVALRY Mikey took one last puff on his cigarette and flicked it spinning into a puddle in the middle of the alley. He and a couple of his skateboard buddies were out of mom’s sight behind the storage shed, smoking and what they called shooting the shit. Herb Jr. was shooting... Sign in to see full entry.

Yes, the old broad is nutty. So what?

Ya wanna buy a hat? Now whadda ya think of that? A dollar or three would satisfy me and my pocketbook would get fat. It's not normal to watch true crime reruns or defunct Dr. Phil on a bright sunny day while the world keeps spinning, the Cubbies keep winning (for once) and ply the crochet needle.... My Little Sis

Well, she's amazing, that's the first thing I need to say. I was 22, she was 19 in the fall of 1957 when I flew from Lambert Field in St. Louis to Portland, Oregon on a 2-week visit. Rosalee was marrying Earl, an intake sociologist at the Oregon State Penitentiary in Salem. Earl worked with my sis... Sign in to see full entry.
