Looks like my comment didn't come through. I had said that if the neighbor does that to these poor creatures, he may "graduate" to dogs and cats; a real concern...

This makes me feel sick.
Reporting this to animal control might get some kind of official talking-to, but there are some people and places where animals are just things and you can do what you like to them. But there are ordinances in some places where it's required to contact animal control and let them deal with disposal of pesky visitors. Animal cruelty laws might apply, too.

Each of us does what can be handled - but that squirrel would be out of there if it was my neighbor.Poor little bugger only wanted food.

It's not just a figure of speech - when I think of what that piece of excrement of a neighbor did to the possum it makes me literally sick to my stomach! Now, I have never had any dealings with the SPCA - I have no idea whether they would make any effort on behalf of a posssum or if they're only concerned with photogenic animals - but I would definitely get in touch with them, tell them excatly what that dreck did and demand they do something!
