Perigueux
We visited Perigueux yesterday which is in the 'blanc' part of the region after the white stone that is so prevalent there. It was baking hot and lovely to stroll around the cooler mediaeval streets, surveying the local markets with their garlic and onions and tomatoes and green figs and peppers. We...

Another glorious day beckons
Well, as forecast, we took three canoes down the Drone river in Brantome yesterday and it was a lot of fun with a lot of water. In drenched shirts and shorts we then sat in a cafe and had a lovely traditional French lunch of foie gras, duck and lemon tarts, washed down with cool beer (we're...

Tranquil

Swallows a maison
I've just been watching swallows ducking and diving over the swimming pool until they were brave enought to dive in. At first I thought they were just checking the water temperature but then it became obvious that they were heading in for early morning drinks. I think they know it will be hot today.

St Crepin
At 7.00 this morning I awoke to the sound of a bell tolling through my reverie; I wasn't sure if I was dreaming at first but then the birds outside our open window and the sun's fingers beckoning me outside showed that I was very much conscious and alive to the glory of the day. The bell tolled from...

Hello everyone. Well, we've had quite a stressful week. Last weekend we spent all weekend cleaning out the cottage which was finally sold on Monday. although it was physically tiring I felt mentally quite relaxed about it. Even when the time came to say goodbye to my favourite trees and secret parts...

Logging off
I've just logged off from the day job sites. It's been a fairly stressful day, remembereing allthe things I've needed to do or tell people but there's nothing more I can do. I guess that's what we have teams of people for? I think it will be a good feeling when I wind down. I'll still be posting on...

Rain
Pouring with rain in Cambridgeshire this morning and the train wasn't able to travel fast enough to escape it so got soaked again when I got to London! We were supposed to be having a barbecue story in England this summer but this looks increasingly like wishful thinking from weather forecasters....

I did scream
on the way home from the day job so your advice was good, Troosha. Thanks for all your support, as always, and for the comments on the By Jove! tearooms site. Azur, I'll pass your comment on and see if I can get some biographies on there. Thanks for that. Day job was immensely political again today...

Frustrating
Frustrating day in the day job today. Battle of egos in the 'management' meeting this morning and now a webstats supplier is trying to backtrack on the real meaning of data in a report I commissioned and agreed to pay for (not now!). Nothing majorly wrong just a day when you want to scream. Thanks...
