Taking the better path

After all this moaning and feeling overwhelmed, I decided to take charge. I got on top of my work (well, sort of), and changed my diet completely. I asked two people to help me with my work, which instantly made me feel I had made headway. And, I went on a semi-fast. I decided enough was enough. It... Sign in to see full entry.

Sometimes, I am tired

Sometimes I am tried of my body. Today, both my feet and my left knee hurt. My right leg has a rod in it, after when I fell and broke it in Thailand six years ago. Three days ago, at the gym, I pushed myself into some yoga postures which stretched the foot (and it felt good-then). My left heel has... Sign in to see full entry.

The UN at 61

Yesterday was United Nations (UN) Day. Sixty one years ago, the UN came into existence and India was on of the founding members. The celebration was held at the UN lawns, where eight contemporary Indian artists unveiled their paintings - expressing their vision of the eight Millennium Development... Sign in to see full entry.

A Dog's Life

Aloe Vera, the family dog, has a life that not everyone understands. He has friends in the community we live in - street dogs that roam all day and night. They move in twos and threes, and have a manner that is rather endearing - like they don't have care in the world. And, I am sure they don't.... Sign in to see full entry.

Victory of Good Over Evil

This year, October 21 is Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights. It celebrates the victory of good over evil. In Hindu mythology, the heir to the throne - Ram - was banished to the forest for 14 years. His wife, Sita and his brother, Lakshman, went with him. During this time, Sita was abducted by... Sign in to see full entry.

The Taj, Again

My first visit to the Taj was in 1985, when I was living in Washington DC. I took a two week trip through India with my friends Thierry and Eileen. I was awestruck by the size of it. It was so alien to the area that it stood in. It was as if someone had dropped in from the sky. Since then I visited... Sign in to see full entry.

A Perfect Day

Yesterday, October 15, was a rather perfect day. Two people in my family had birthdays - my husband (Mahesh) and my brother-in-law (Nitya). They are about ten years apart, but share a zodiac sign. They have many things in common, and many things not in common. A joint celebration was planned at my... Sign in to see full entry.

Unscrambling my Mind

I have so many things on my plate. My head feels like a breakfast table - scrambled eggs, a bowl full of fresh cut papaya, hot buttered toast, coffee, and some warm microwaved walnuts. I have the writing project I was traveling for to complete (some more interviews this week). An analytical report... Sign in to see full entry.

The Sun and the Moon on Saturday

Today is full moon. Last night it was so bright that it almost seemed there was a giant light in the sky. The air was cool, and I could feel that summer was thinking about leaving. Sort of. This morning I awoke at 4.30 AM. We have a house guest Peter, my friend Mary's husband. Both Australians, I... Sign in to see full entry.

Art Forms

Yesterday, after my meetings in Defence Colony, I decided to walk to the market, which was about 20 minutes away. I was meeting my sister and a friend for coffee. It was 6 PM and the sun was moving down into the western horizon. The sky was lovley - in different hues of blue, orange and grey, and... Sign in to see full entry.
